Securing livelihoods for marginalised communities across India
About us
Axis Bank Foundation focusses on working with vulnerable rural communities, helping them secure stable and sustainable livelihoods. To create economic opportunities for small and marginal farmers and landless rural citizens, we set in place systems that enhance their income from agri and agri-allied work, natural resource management, livestock and via linkages for finance and to markets. We also look into providing vocational skills for able and disabled unemployed youth in urban and rural India. We work with our extensive network of NGO-partners to design programmes and interventions specific to the community’s requirements. Our vision is to reach out to the most marginalised communities and create sustainable socio-economic impact in their lives. We aim to impact two million households by 2025.

Today, on the occasion of #InternationalDayforRuralWomen, we bring you a story highlighting the pivotal role of Ajeevika Pathshala in empowering rural communities and women. By providing essential training in livestock management, financial literacy, and sustainable farming practices, the Sustainable Livelihood Programme opens doors to new opportunities for rural women and their families. Maya Devi is an inspiring example; by applying her skills from Ajeevika Pathshala and leveraging income from livestock rearing and SHG credit, she has diversified her family’s income, showcasing resilience in building a secure future. Through our projects planned with partner NGOs, government, and various community institutions, the programme continues to support rural women in the communities we work with by broadening their skill sets, diversifying income sources beyond farming, and becoming active stakeholders in shaping their futures. #RuralLivelihoods #InternationalDayforRuralWomen #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme

In rural communities, building connectivity and collaboration is key to unlocking better livelihoods and new income opportunities. Self-help groups (SHGs) act as a bridge to essential resources like knowledge, information, credit, and government schemes. By enabling individuals, SHGs equip them with the tools needed to boost their livelihoods and drive local development. This way, communities can navigate available resources more effectively, fostering greater economic independence and social inclusion. Shaping women’s leadership is at the heart of this initiative. The Sustainable Livelihood Programme builds on this by enhancing their capacities through training, financial literacy sessions, and expanding access to knowledge. The programme further supports SHGs by integrating them into larger value chains and promoting new-age agricultural practices. Through these efforts, the programme does more than just provide access to resources; it encourages rural communities to achieve lasting growth and financial stability. 📹 Samaj Pragati Sahayog #AtoZofRuralLivelihoods #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme #SHGs #WomenLeadership #CommunityDevelopment

Backyard Poultry Farming has proven to be a powerful tool for empowering women, especially in rural regions. It provides opportunities for income generation, financial independence, and enhanced household nutrition. As part of our Sustainable Livelihood Programme, we encourage rural families—particularly women—to adopt poultry farming to diversify and strengthen their livelihood opportunities. How does poultry farming impact women? 🍀 Additional Income and Economic Independence: Offers women a steady source of income with relatively low initial investment. This enables them to contribute financially to their households and communities 🍀 Nutritional Security: Provides a consistent source of protein through eggs and chicken meat, significantly improving the nutrition of women and their families, particularly in regions with limited access to diverse food sources. 🍀 Capacity Building: Women engaged in poultry farming acquire critical business management skills and financial planning, which can be transferred to other entrepreneurial ventures 🍀 Community Impact: The participation of women in poultry farming inspires other women in their communities to engage in small-scale farming or entrepreneurship, fostering an environment of collective economic growth and mutual support #AtoZofRuralLivelihoods #WomenEmpowerment #PoultryFarming #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme #RuralDevelopment 📽 Video Courtesy: Samaj Pragati Sahayog
