We look forward to seeing the first vessel connect to shore power at Berth 3 in Montrose! ⚡️🔌
Work is underway to install shore power at Berth 3, with operations set to go live in February. Once completed, 30% of our berths will be electrified, enabling offshore energy support vessels to connect to Plug Montrose, our state-of-the-art #shorepower facility developed in partnership with Plug | Shore Power & Maritime Charging. ⚡🚢 This milestone marks a big step towards reducing emissions and advancing the #decarbonisation of maritime operations. Time to wrap up the cruise season – and what a year it’s been! Nearly 70% of the largest cruise ships visiting the Port of Bergen this year have chosen to connect to shore power! Together, ships in Bergen have used over 21 GWh of electricity so far - 8 GWh from cruise ships and 13 GWh from offshore supply vessels, marking a 50% increase in delivered energy over the past two years. 🌱 By connecting to shore power, ships in Bergen have helped save the city over 17,000 tons of CO2 this year! 📈 In the Port of Ålesund, we’ve seen a remarkable 293% increase in cruise ship connections from 2023 to 2024! This translates to 4.5 GWh of energy delivered and 3,600 tons of CO2 saved in 2024 alone. 🤝 This success wouldn’t be possible without the support of progressive partners. A big thank you to the Port of Bergen and Port of Ålesund for their dedication to sustainable maritime practices. 💡 While we celebrate these milestones, the Port of Bergen has set an ambitious goal: By 2026, all cruise ships visiting Bergen will operate emission-free while docked. We’re proud to support this vision and excited for what’s ahead! ⚡ Breaking new grounds Just a few years ago, the idea of charging a fully electric bulk carrier seemed like a distant dream. Now it's becoming a reality! We’re thrilled to share that Enova SF has awarded funding to Plug, and Nidarø AS / Seaworks Company, a Norwegian short sea bulk carrier, to pioneer zero-emission bulk operations. Plug is on board as the infrastructure partner! ✅ The vessel possesses 34MWh battery capacity ✅ The charging facilities will deliver up to 5MW using MCS (Megawatt Charging System) ✅ Charging stations will be located in Tomma and Austvika on the Helgeland coast The collaboration marks the beginning of a new era for nearshore shipping operations. We’re proud to work alongside Seaworks and excited to lead the charge in building a sustainable future for shipping. Enova continues to provide support for pioneering technologies with significant potential to mitigate climate change. The new Enova program aim to accellerate charging facilities for maritime operations. Read more here: bit.ly/4gDVeTt 📩 Want to learn more or join us in this journey?
