Recognising excellence in the built environment since 1959.
About us
The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment. As the longest standing built environment awards scheme in Europe, since 1959, more than 7000 projects have been rewarded and the scheme has continued in its objective to recognise projects that have made a positive contribution to the local communities they serve. The Civic Trust Awards is one of the only remaining independent built environment awards schemes, not linked to any organisation, institution or publication and operates on a not-for-profit basis. We also provide an opportunity for the general public to participate in nominating and judging schemes from their local area. The aim of the Civic Trust Awards is to encourage the very best in architecture and environmental design, to improve the built environment for us all through design, sustainability, inclusiveness and accessibility, and also to reward projects that offer a positive cultural, social, economic or environmental benefit to their local communities.

We are delighted that ‘The Waterways’ has been selected as a 2025 Civic Trust Awards: Regional Finalist, and a 2025 Selwyn Goldsmith Awards for Universal Design: Regional Finalist! The Waterways project in Great Yarmouth focused on the comprehensive restoration and enhancement of this historic landscapes and attraction, breathing life back into this important part of the regions heritage. Works looked to ensure long-term sustainability through community engagement and modern amenities, involving repairs to the boating lake's concrete structure, revitalising themed gardens, and restoring ornamental features as well as enhancing accessibility with new ramps and lifts. The before & after images show how drastic and detailed the transformation has been! Primarily funded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project has been a collaborative effort involving a wide range of professionals, specialists, artists, and extends to local colleges for trainee and volunteer involvement - ensuring skill development and community engagement. Since its completion the volunteer groups have been continually active, and recently earned another Green Flag award for the park. Thank you to CIVIC TRUST AWARDS, we look forward to finding out the winners next year. Thrilled to share that our Cosway Street project in Marylebone has been selected as a 2025 Civic Trust Regional Finalist. The sculptural building repairs a degraded streetscape and creates a contextual yet modern addition within the Lisson Grove conservation area. We responded to the neighbourhood's predominantly late Victorian and Georgian architecture with a design that ripples with visual interest and reflects the rhythms and proportions of the neighboring streets. The aspiration for the project is to create a building that will last for generations and become a piece of future heritage. Congratulations to Rotherhithe Primary School named Regional Finalist in the CIVIC TRUST AWARDS 2025! Rotherhithe Primary School’s redevelopment transforms it into a modern, inclusive community hub. Embracing the concept of a "school within a garden," it extends the green space and openness of Southwark Park into the school grounds, creating a stimulating and protected outdoor environment for students, many from high-rise homes without gardens. The design prioritises inclusivity, with spaces for children with special needs, and fosters community connections through flexible facilities for arts, sports, and workshops. Celebrating local heritage and prioritising sustainability with energy-efficient systems and green features, the school is a beacon of hope and pride for its vibrant, diverse neighbourhood. The project will now compete for National Awards or Highly Commended status, with winners to be revealed in January 2025 and celebrated at the Civic Trust Awards Ceremony in March. https://lnkd.in/ej4iskzZ
