🤖 This week, we were proud to host a meetup for schools taking part in FIRST Tech Challenge UK. ⚙️Pupils from the schools were able to meet each other, learn about robotics and prepare their designs, ahead of a robotics competition in April. 🪛 With special thanks to the The National Robotarium and the Heart of Midlothian FC Innovation Centre for helping to make the event a success.

⚒️ At Glasgow Science Centre, we’re working with industry to open doors for young people across Scotland. We’ve recently teamed up with Morrison Construction, who have funded select local schools to receive free school membership to the Science Centre for the current academic year. The school memberships give pupils and teachers at the chosen schools access to curriculum-aligned learning resources, including our innovative Learning Lab and STEM Futures programmes – as well as a free, fun day out to the Science Centre. 🎤 Welcoming the continuation of our partnership with Morrison Construction, our Chief Executive Officer Stephen Breslin said: “At Glasgow Science Centre, we believe that no young person should face barriers to careers in STEM. With the demand for skills in science and technology continuing to grow, it has never been more important that government, industry and educators work together to bolster STEM attainment in a way that no one gets left behind. “As a charity, none of the vital work we are able to achieve at Glasgow Science Centre would be possible without the funding of our valued partners, like Morrison Construction, who enable us to drive forward change.” ➡️ Read more about our latest partnership here: https://lnkd.in/e-FdcvCR

❄️ 2024 may be winding down, but our wetlands are still a hive of activity, even during the cold Winter months! 🦢 You might remember our resident signets from earlier this year who are now all grown-up, though still like to stay close to their nest – which our visitors can watch from our viewing platform. 🌾 The floating wetlands, which we installed in 2023, now play host to over 2k native plants and nesting sites for wildlife to enhance biodiversity.

🎄 Christmas has arrived early for our Community Team! ♻️ Today, our Earth Allies friends from Glasgow Clyde College came into the Science Centre to try their hands at making Christmas decorations out of recyclable materials. 💚 Our 12-session Earth Allies programme empowers young people to raise awareness of environmental issues and be climate activists – learning how best to mobilise others and effectively campaign for change. 🫶 This is just one of the ways we’re helping to give back to our local community.
