1 & 2 MacFarlane Place, Television Centre makes the shortlist for this years Pineapple Awards for Climate Resilience 🙌 🙌 By accommodating the UK’s changing climate through the integration of external shutters, the design ensures the buildings’ adaptability under future conditions. Coupled with hardwearing, natural finishes to external and internal communal areas, the buildings’ longevity is a key feature. Congratulations and good luck to the team. About us
Maccreanor Lavington is an award-winning architectural practice established in the early nineties by Gerard Maccreanor and Richard Lavington. Working from offices in London and Rotterdam, Maccreanor Lavington has built up a diverse portfolio of both individual buildings and large-scale urban design projects and has a particular expertise in housing, public buildings and regeneration. Our architecture is calm but uplifting, contemporary yet timeless. Rather than shout for attention, out work is deliberately background in character, seeking to create ‘ordinary’ places for living and working. Our philosophy is fabric-first design and we build robust, well-made buildings that will last. Our work has been recognised by numerous prestigious awards and has been cited as a case study in various publications on housing, schools and urban design.

Good to see our Bow Goods Yard project receiving the recognition it deserves. A significant part of London's regeneration efforts, transforming an old underused industrial site into a mixed-use area that blends residential, commercial, and community spaces. Tom Lowe Building Magazine "It was in May last year that the first signs emerged of what could be one of this decade’s biggest housing stories. A planning application was submitted for the Bow Goods Yard scheme in Stratford, north-east London. It went largely unnoticed by the housing sector because the scheme, a huge freight logistics hub, contained no housing. Approved last October, it is set to see up to three million square feet of industrial and leisure space built on the last plot of land to be released as part of the 2012 Olympics legacy, all of which is interesting enough in its own right. But it was a little noticed detail in the application that could prove to be the most significant for the housing sector in the years ahead." https://lnkd.in/d_bPHatP #urbanists #anglodutch

ML Urbanist Blazej Czuba joins the NLA expert panel 2025 for Industrial & Logistics. Blazej has been leading on the Bow Goods Yard masterplan, the missing piece of the Olympic Legacy and one of the few strategic railheads in London. The NLA panel will look at supporting the urban logistics that keep the capital functioning, and examine the evolution of London’s industrial and logistics sectors which support London as a world-leading centre. #urbanists #architects #anglodutch

Here's Marc Seligmann our Head of Sustainability talking about UK Architects Declare 'Primer document' and why it is important. Join the debate next Tuesday 21st January at 12pm for news on the Regenerative Design Primer with presentations, breakout groups & discussions: https://lnkd.in/enz95reA #anglodutch #architects #urbanists
“Blazing temperatures in 2024 require trail-blazing climate action in 2025,” the UN Secretary-General said, and we can see the devastating impact of the climate crisis right now, at the very beginning of this year. In the UK, where construction represents 42 per cent of CO2 emissions, 62 per cent of waste and 50 per cent of extraction material, our Regenerative Design Primer sets the ball rolling for the transition of our built environment impact – from Degenerative to Regenerative. Our first Regenerative Design Primer, delivered last year, was a 'work in progress'. Now it's time to shape the next iteration and we're setting up working groups to deliver our Primer 2.0. We need YOU to be part of this evolution! Join us online next Tuesday 21st January at 12pm for expert presentations, breakout groups & discussions: · Brief overview of the Regenerative Design Primer and next steps · Regenerative Design Primer - Your feedback · Regenerative Design - What are the blockages? · Regenerative Design - How to move forward Book your place now https://lnkd.in/enz95reA In the short clip below you can watch Marc Seligmann, Head of Sustainability at Maccreanor Lavington and contributor to the Primer document, talk about what it is and why it is important. #DesignPrimer #RegenerativeFuture #ClimateCrisis #ClimateAction #RegenerativeDesignPrimer #UKArchitectsDeclare #Workshops #PrimerV2 #2025 https://lnkd.in/dGGKcZ-z

As the year comes to a close, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all of our valued clients, collaborators and colleagues. The year has been filled with varied achievements, challenges and successes. In the spirit of giving and making a positive impact, we have decided to forgo sending physical Christmas cards this year. Here's the team at the inaugural 'topping out' ceremony at York Way Estate in the London Borough of Islington. York Way is about creating new homes within the York Way estate with sensitive new additional blocks knitted into the existing housing estate built in 1969. These four new blocks provide a rigorous order and articulated brick façades provide a high quality and durable architecture with simple, crisp detailing ensuring the buildings will mature gracefully, become richer and look better with time. The team stepped out for a peek at the recently completed MacFarlane Place, part of the wider Television Centre masterplan, delivered by Stanhope PLC as developer on behalf of Peabody. Doing their bit for climate resilience our two affordable and distinct housing blocks explore ways to accommodate the UK’s evolving climate through the integration of external shutters. A key feature being the buildings’ longevity and adaptability under future conditions. The low-maintenance, robust external shutters help residents control solar gain during peak periods, and allow their homes to be cooled by a combination of natural and mechanical ventilation during evening hours. The project provides much-need affordable-tenure homes for the local area, and allows a wide section of the community to benefit from the wider regeneration of White City. Southwark Council has given the go ahead for the redevelopment of a former gasworks site on Salter Road, Rotherhithe. We have designed 151 new homes which includes a significant amount of public realm including a new central garden and play area designed by HTA Design LLP. The scheme provides a mix of terraced houses and robust apartment blocks, that respond to the low-rise suburban character of the area while delivering much needed new homes for Southwark. "The buildings and the public spaces work together to form a coherent new neighbourhood with a strong sense of identity. The architecture of both the townhouses and the apartment blocks take their cues from the former terraces of dock worker’s cottages and larger Victorian warehouses that used to populate the area, while remaining true to the time in which they are being built.'" Along with Landscape Architects Erect Architecture we have been chosen by Populo Living to develop designs for a new fully inclusive flagship primary school and adjacent residential building, with over 100 new flats in Newham. The practices will work closely both with Populo and Carpenters Primary School on the plans, in line with Newham’s ambition to improve the site, which sits adjacent to the wider Carpenters Estate. As Newham’s wholly owned development company, Populo Living will oversee the delivery of the school and new apartments. The designs will enable the existing school to grow easily over time from two forms of entry to three, whilst still maintaining a friendly small-school feel. Communal spaces within the school will be located to provide a strong civic presence and complement the adjacent planned community centre at James Riley Point as part of Newham’s commitment to embed high quality social infrastructure at the heart of the Carpenters Estate. Congratulations to the team. #education #architects #anglodutch
