The team stepped out for a peek at the recently completed MacFarlane Place, part of the wider Television Centre masterplan, delivered by Stanhope PLC as developer on behalf of Peabody. Doing their bit for climate resilience our two affordable and distinct housing blocks explore ways to accommodate the UK’s evolving climate through the integration of external shutters. A key feature being the buildings’ longevity and adaptability under future conditions. The low-maintenance, robust external shutters help residents control solar gain during peak periods, and allow their homes to be cooled by a combination of natural and mechanical ventilation during evening hours. The project provides much-need affordable-tenure homes for the local area, and allows a wide section of the community to benefit from the wider regeneration of White City. The photos of the completed project are amazing, delving the shutters on this project across both buildings was such a challenge but a rewarding one! With the legislation changes we hope to see many more buildings like this with external shading popping up over London in the years to come and we are working on many in the background.
A fantastic project, really proud to have been part of it.
This is a standout example of how thoughtful design can meet both immediate housing needs and long-term climate challenges. The integration of low-maintenance, robust external shutters is a key design feature. I would imagine that, 3D visualization played a crucial role in the design process: ✔️ Simulating the effectiveness of shading devices across different seasons ✔️ Testing the balance between natural ventilation and mechanical systems for optimal indoor comfort ✔️ Visualizing how the design integrates into the wider regeneration of White City, ensuring it enhances the community's character and resilience MacFarlane Place is a great example of architecture that anticipates the future while serving the needs of the present—a true asset to the city. 👏
Congratulations Prisca Thielmann & Maccreanor Lavington , a fine looking addition to the TVC stable. Liking the window / shutter details post Part O too.
