Recently, Cindy added another impressive achievement to her resume by completing the Records Management course as part of the CAPstone education program from the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Since earning her Certified Administrative Professional Rating from IAAP 16 years ago, Cindy has been recertified four times, continually advancing her skills and competencies. Her dedication to learning is truly inspiring! Cindy's journey is a testament to the power of continuous learning and the supportive culture at Community Electric Cooperative. We are proud to announce that three outstanding high school seniors from our service territory have each received $1,000 college scholarships from the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives Education Scholarship Foundation. Join us in congratulating: 🎓 Jada Brittle - Windsor High School 🎓 Keaera Kea-Towns - Windsor High School 🎓 Reese Upton - Isle of Wight Academy We are incredibly proud of these students and their achievements. Their dedication and hard work reflect the values of our cooperative community.

Thank you to our amazing board for investing so much into our cooperative and our community. Board of Directors Chairman Jeannette Everett renewed her “Director Gold Credential” through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Meanwhile, board Director Chad Fowler earned his Director Gold Credential, while Director Michael Faulk earned his “Board Leadership Certificate.” 

Wellman retired from Community Electric in early April, having spent more than 40 years serving member-owners at rural electric cooperatives in Virginia and New York. He joined CEC in 1989 as a journeyman lineman. For the vast majority of his nearly 35 years here, he worked as a meter and apparatus technician, achieving the position of chief technician around the year 2000.

Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) power-generation facility managers were recently recognized for their attention to #safety. #cultureofsafety

Thanks to Community Electric Cooperative for hosting a team from ODEC to experience a “Day in the Life” of our members. We learned about the co-op's HR, accounting, billing, member services, operations and field work. The team even had a an opportunity to climb a pole and ride in a bucket truck! #cooperationamongcooperatives

Exciting news from Windsor, VA! This past week, twenty students from five Tidewater high schools had the opportunity to dive into the world of power sector line work at Community Electric Cooperative. The "Day in the Life of a Lineman" event attracted a record-high turnout, showcasing the vital role of line crews in our communities. Participating students from Gloucester, Smithfield, Windsor, Southampton in Courtland, and Western Branch in Chesapeake, and two homeschoolers got firsthand experience accompanying linemen in bucket trucks, climbing poles, and witnessing live line safety demonstrations. They also had insightful discussions with CEC's line workers, ODEC representatives, and Career Counselor Matt Dunn from Southside Virginia Community College. Such events often inspire attendees to pursue careers in the electric sector, with many opting for education at SVCC and subsequently joining a contractor, cooperative, or utility in the Tidewater area. The involvement of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) further enriched the session, aligning with their mission of information sharing and relationship building across distribution co-ops in the state. Kudos to the dedicated CEC line workers who shared their expertise and experiences, providing invaluable insights into the world of line work. "project:HOMES did a total turnaround in my home," said Mr. Lewis. "This has always been my home but I feel more at home now that project:HOMES and Community Electric has come in and did these installs in my home." ODEC partners with your local electric cooperative and local weatherization agencies to provide weatherization assistance to income-eligible households through WAP (Weatherization Assistance Program). In this case, ODEC partnered with Community Electric and project:HOMES to provide improved comfort of Mr. Lewis' home.
