About us
Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects [LOHA] engages the ever-changing complexities of the urban landscape, embracing architecture’s role as a catalyst for change. With a conscious understanding that architecture operates within a layered context of political, developmental, environmental, and social structures, LOHA seeks to elevate the human condition via the built environment. Our design methodology, Amplified Urbanism is informed by the desire to create fluid interaction between public and private spaces, emphasize social and civic connections, and harness existing infrastructural and ecological patterns to cultivate vibrant communities. Driven by ruthless optimism and creative pragmatism, we believe that bold, enlightened design elevates the soul and enriches communities. We craft distinctive, sustainable, elegantly-resolved designs that not only meet the needs of our clients, but also respond to broader civic and social ambitions. Based out of our studios in Los Angeles and Detroit, LOHA has built over 90 projects across three continents. We deliver diverse work ranging from art galleries, bus shelters, and large-scale neighborhood plans, to large mixed-use developments and university residential complexes. We have been published in over 20 countries and recognized with over 100 awards.

"Kings1030" by Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA] features a 4-story, 30-unit residential building in West Hollywood. Utilizing fluted metal and recycled panels, the design carves out large portions of its mass to create communal spaces and integrate the building into the lively pedestrian neighborhood. https://buff.ly/4bte1hw #UrbanArchitecture #SustainableDesign #CommunityLiving

From AIA Los Angeles: "Bellevue53’s thoughtful design ensures it fits perfectly among surrounding homes. The roofline is particularly impressive, contributing to a detailed distinction between the interior and exterior spaces. The view of the pool is a highlight, showcasing the building's skillful design that, in less capable hands, could have resulted in something ordinary. The ground-floor retail space is well-integrated, enhancing the building's interest and avoiding a monotonous, density-driven block." Friends Of Residential Treasures: LA—or FORT LA—is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to bringing people together by celebrating the history and influence of residential architecture. In collaboration with Frances Anderton and David Kersh, the Awesome + Affordable resource will shed light on design-forward affordable housing solutions with an initial focus on the Los Angeles region. Throughout 2024, buildings selected for the Awesome Building of the Month series are based on being both affordable and awesome in their design, services, contributions to community, and connection to the street and surrounding neighborhood. Our Bellevue53 has been recognized as a winner in the AIA Los Angeles Residential Awards. Congratulations to our client CIM Group and collaborators on this project! As Los Angeles embraces densification, the tension between housing and single-family homes intensifies. LOHA's Bellevue project eases this tension by weaving the essence of the neighborhood into community fabric through stepped façades, exterior spaces, and public amenities. Drawing inspiration from the neighborhood, LOHA developed a rhythmic massing that echoes the steep topography and reduces the scale of the building. LOHA and Holos Communities celebrated the grand opening of Isla Intersections Supportive Housing and Paseo with a block party and ribbon-cutting on Saturday, June 15, joined by Mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass, Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Chairman, CEO and President of the Annenberg Foundation Wallis Annenberg. Located on the same block as an LA Metro stop and an 8-minute walk from the Metro C Line Harbor Freeway stop, Isla Intersections is an example of smart growth principles and infrastructure with environmental justice in mind for tenants and community members. Isla’s siting in a transit-oriented community near public transportation reduces the need for parking and provides tenants built-in access to the rest of Los Angeles. The modular shipping container stacks are optimally positioned to reduce noise from nearby roads and highways, ensuring tenants have peace of mind inside their units.
