Caroline Hands, General Manager of Human Resources, Copper for Rio Tinto, recently participated in an employer panel at the second annual mining conference of the United Steelworkers of America in Minneapolis. During her remarks, Caroline emphasized the importance of copper being designated as a critical mineral by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). She advocated for streamlining the permitting process in the US. She highlighted that the US has the second longest mine development timeline globally, with an average of 29 years, second only to Zambia. At Resolution Copper, we value our neutrality agreement with the Steelworkers and are committed to fostering partnership and collaboration to advance critical minerals projects vital to the renewable energy transition.

Resolution Copper is investing in Arizona and the U.S. to develop one of the world's largest untapped copper resources.
About us
Resolution Copper is Arizona Copper. Our project, a proposed mine outside of Phoenix, Arizona, has the potential to support nearly 25% of U.S. copper demand, giving Americans access to a critical resource for our everyday lives and the clean energy transition. The copper from the mine will be used to produce vital products that modern society depends upon, such as electric vehicles, smartphones, renewable electricity generation and MRI scanners. Resolution Copper will also deliver significant economic growth to nearby communities and the state of Arizona by providing jobs, tax revenue, and increased local spending over the project’s 60-year lifespan. We are committed to being good stewards of the environment, protecting culture and heritage in the areas where we operate, and contributing to the long-term success of our communities. The project is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto (55%) and BHP (45%).

🎆 Happy 4th of July! 🎇 Have you ever wondered what’s behind the beautiful colors of fireworks lighting up the sky? Spoiler alert: It’s mineral elements (ahem, like CU). The blue and purple you see in your fireworks are thanks to copper. Copper, just doing its part to help celebrate America's birthday. #AmericanCopper For a deeper dive into how different minerals create these dazzling displays, check out the USGS infographic: https://on.doi.gov/3zswgGF
