From preparedness to response to recovery, The Texas A&M University System now serves and protects more Texans than ever when disaster strikes. We are proud of our state agencies who are answering the call this week to help our fellow Texans, their families, and their animals recover from Hurricane Beryl. A&M System employees are part of more than 2,500 responders deployed by and stationed throughout Texas supporting the state's storm response. We could not be prouder of them!

We welcomed Office of the Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick to the Texas Division of Emergency Management Regional Headquarters and Staging Area at Texas A&M-RELLIS today to give him a firsthand look at how System employees are working to help Texans recover from Hurricane Beryl. We are thankful to state lawmakers for entrusting the A&M System and our state agencies to help our fellow Texans prepare and recover from disasters like Hurricane Beryl.

Chancellor John Sharp, the longest-serving chancellor in the history of the Texas A&M University System, has announced his plans to retire on June 30, 2025. The Texas A&M University System was chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to be part of a group to manage and operate the Pantex Plant, which maintains the safety, security, and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile. A three-day celebration commemorating the 100th birthday on June 12 of George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, kicked off in Aggieland today. President Bush's son and former Florida governor Jeb Bush moderated a conversation between Robert Gates and Andrew Card, who have served in both Bush administrations and at Texas A&M University.
