A few months ago Secretary Pete Buttigieg referenced Prof. Bent Flyvbjerg's work while opening the Kansas City International Airport's new terminal, saying: "There's a new body of research that's come out analyzing billion dollar plus projects. The proportion of them that are completed in a way that meets the promised benefits, happens on time, and arrives at or under budget is less than 1%." Now, Secretary Buttigieg has invited Prof. Flyvbjerg to kick off a webinar series on the importance of infrastructure project delivery. I hope you'll consider registering for this event and for the webinar series that follows: https://lnkd.in/gGn9Ahhf Having worked with Penguin Random House on Prof. Flyvbjerg's latest book, "How Big Things Get Done," and on scaling Oxford Global Projects advisory services around the globe, I am certain the discussion will be informative and insightful for all who attend. On a personal note, it is truly validating to see Prof. Flyvbjerg and Dr. Alexander Budzier’s work discussed at the highest levels. These ideas and methodologies matter. Infrastructure investments - in my home state of Missouri, across the USA, and around the world - are investments in future generations. The better we deliver projects today, the better world we build for tomorrow.
Have you registered for the kickoff of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s series on the importance of BIL project delivery? Research Spotlight! In the United States, many transit stops are not adequate. For many bus riders, the journey to access and the wait at the bus stop are experiences that may inhibit their ability or desire to take the bus. The Transit Cooperative Research Program - TCRP Synthesis 152 Transit Agency Relationships and Initiatives to Improve Bus Stops and Pedestrian Access summarizes the current practice for bus stop and pedestrian infrastructure improvement programs and processes in place at transit agencies and other public organizations. The report presents available information on existing programs, considerations and methods for prioritizing improvements, program leadership and funding, relationships and agreements with external public and private entities, and unique transit agency practices in bus stop improvements that can serve as examples for others to integrate into their organizations. As we step into 2024, we’re receiving, as Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer, the torch of the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) presidency. We are certainly looking forward to what this year will bring! We want to build on the work of our predecessors to strengthen CEDR's role and achieve its strategic goals. Moreover we aim to address some contradictory challenges that National Road Associations (NRA) are currently facing: how can NRAs combine the major replacement tasks of our infrastructure network, whilst also future-proofing infra for new (not yet existing) technologies and services that support green and smart mobility. At the same time NRAs must manage the digital transition period. We have some interesting times ahead and are looking forward to the meet-up in Dublin in April. #CEDR #AWV

Network technologies, travel choices behavior, economics, policies all integrated in a mobility ecosystem.
🚗 Is Mobility as a Service (MaaS) on life support following MaaS Global's bankruptcy? Not so fast! While the bankruptcy raises questions, MaaS itself is far from dead. It's a wake-up call emphasizing the need for local optimization and social acceptance. 🌎 Take the US for instance. Merely integrating mobility options and payment systems won't cut it. Why? Non-driving ridership sits below 5% nationally. And if MaaS platforms only serve existing riders, they're missing out on the bigger picture. 🚶♂️ Equity and accessibility through MaaS systems are undoubtedly crucial, but engaging drivers is also key to making a regional impact and justifying the investment. The real impact lies in motivating and assisting "nudgeable" drivers in making informed and timely decisions, such as changing departure time, route, and mode or even forgoing the trip when needed. 🏙️ Our successes with programs like Houston ConnectSmart and our latest VDOT Dynamic Incentive (DI) project speak volumes. They underscore visionary state and regional transportation agencies' commitment and innovative approaches to addressing congestion, enhancing safety, and providing accessibility regionally. MaaS isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. It thrives when tailored to local needs and embraced by communities, delivered through a behavioral science-based process. #MaaS #dynamicincentive #Virginia #Texas #Houston #ConnectSmart
