It's only two weeks to go until Place Capital takes to the stage UKREiiF. In summer 2024 the Government announced its commitment to a “New Era of Regeneration’. Whilst the sentiments of this commitment are naturally welcome, the emphasis was largely on our inner cities. But how will these commitments manifest and be implemented in our outlier towns and communities? Can local authorities, large social landlords and developers work together to use this opportunity to deliver quality housing and places through comprehensive place-based regeneration strategies. These questions are just some that will be put to the panellists in our session at this year’s UKREiiF event. The session will be hosted by Place Capital’s CEO, David Smith-Milne, and will be joined by an esteemed panel who will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to what we expect to be a lively, insightful and productive discussion. The session will explore how estate renewal and social housing can sit at the heart of a comprehensive place-based approach to regeneration and play a central strategic role in driving the development pipeline and improving the lives of communities. Join us in the Dockside Pavilion, Dockside Zone at 15.30 – 16.30 on Wednesday 22nd May. Leeds City Centre – Royal Armouries Leeds & Leeds Dock, New Dock, Armouries Dr, Leeds LS10 1LT. #placecapitalgroup #ukreiif #estaterenewal #regeneration #neweraofregeneration #socialhousing #affordablehousing #placemaking #placeshaping #homesengland #salfordcitycouncil #incommunities #livvhousinggroup #schroderscapital

Alongside my colleagues at Harris Associates, really delighted to have collaborated with The UKAA at this year's #UKAA conference and talk to leading figures within the Build to Rent industry. Great to get thoughts and insights on 2023, and some predictions for 2024. One of the key takeaways this year for me is the importance in communicating the benefits of the sector to a wider audience. The BTR sector can form a pivotal role in the sustainable delivery of housing supply in the UK, and will be a critical component to the success of the wider housing market targets going forward. Rental growth is a factor that we must be cognisant of, and growth at a sustainable rate is important for the sector, but in particular renters. Ultimately, the best long term solution to this is increasing the rate of delivery of quality rental accommodation to enable the current demand to be satiated, reducing competition for space. 🎙Iain Murray, Senior Director at Cortland Consult 🎙Ashley Perry MRICS, Investment Director at Apache Capital 🎙Tracey Hartley, COO at Cortland 🎙Brendan Geraghty, CEO of The UKAA 🎙Lesley Roberts, Director of BTR at Godwin Developments #BTR #BuildToRent #realestate #rental #property #HarrisAssociates #HarrisAssociatesLIVE

The power of innovation-driven regeneration is the focus of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s UKREiiF discussion panel in Leeds this morning. Parallels with areas of #Lancashire - both in terms of industrial heritage and being home to R&D assets like AMRC - are obvious, but South Yorkshire’s Innovation District is clearly a more mature investment destination when compared to somewhere like Samlesbury. The contributions - from Emma Frost from the Innovations Districts Group, Tom Bousfield from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, and Kate Josephs CB from Sheffield City Council - all point to how South #Yorkshire has developed a really integrated and long-term approach to social and economic infrastructure investments. Some great learnings for Lancashire (and similar regions) who are pursuing their own innovation-led economic ambitions based on good, sustainable and inclusive growth.

At the attached link is a report on research conducted by Sheffield Property Association & Kada Research Limited into the impact of post-COVID working practices on Sheffield City Centre. We believe that it would be of interest to our Freemen and Friends and their businesses. Although this is focused on Sheffield, there should also be relevant lessons for the entire South Yorkshire Region. One particular thing to note is the recommendation to keep building heritage offerings in the City Centre which will play into the Fargate development as a destination.
