Developed by the Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP), a just-released analysis identifies gaps and opportunities within current circularity methods and policies. The “Landscape Analysis of Circularity-related Corporate Performance & Accountability and Policy & Regulation” evaluates regulatory landscapes globally, highlights bottlenecks, and proposes solutions to enhance corporate measurement, performance, and reporting on circularity. The GCP has four strategic workstreams; (1) Circular Impact Analysis, (2) Corporate Performance and Accountability System (CPAS) for Circularity, (3) Policy Framework for Circularity, and (4) Science-informed targets for Circularity; and aims to deliver the first Protocol version by 2026. 💡 The Global Circularity Protocol (GCP) by the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development offers a standardized framework to help companies shift to a circular economy. 🚀 It supports target-setting, measuring, and reporting on circularity, aiming to reduce material consumption, cut emissions, and promote environmental health. I am very happy to announce that TOMRA is Business Champion for the Global Circularity Protocol (GCP), sharing insights from our 50 years of experience in the field to support the the development of business standards for circularity reporting across the globe. Currently, only 7% of the world’s resources are circular, a number far below what is needed to reach the targets set in the Paris agreement. Many businesses want to contribute, but a lack of standardization in reporting on circularity efforts opens for greenwashing, whether intentional or not. This has muddied the waters and made it difficult to assess companies’ actual contributions. By advocating for science-based targets, we aim to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Next week, I will be in New York for Climate Week, discussing the importance of the GCP with business leaders and policy makers looking to promote a circular economy shift to the benefit of our planet and all its inhabitants. The ISO—International Organization for Standardization—recently published ISO 59004, part of the ISO 59000 family of standards.  ISO 59004 is a crucial part of the ISO 59000 family of standards, specifically designed to foster a shift towards a circular economy. What is ISO 59004?   - ISO 59004 is a comprehensive standard that provides guidance applicable to any organization. How to generate a positive impact on your business?💡🌎 The study (i) mapped what high impact research on #circularity indicators and #circulareconomy actions is reporting; (ii) pointed out challenges and opportunities in the application of circularity #indicators; and (iii) discussed implications for #businesses wanting to generate #positiveimpacts. Furthermore, the work shows non-academic level studies in terms of circularity indicators, such as online tools, websites; and other taxonomy proposals of index-based methodologies.
