I am very happy to announce that TOMRA is Business Champion for the Global Circularity Protocol (GCP), sharing insights from our 50 years of experience in the field to support the the development of business standards for circularity reporting across the globe. Currently, only 7% of the world’s resources are circular, a number far below what is needed to reach the targets set in the Paris agreement. Many businesses want to contribute, but a lack of standardization in reporting on circularity efforts opens for greenwashing, whether intentional or not. This has muddied the waters and made it difficult to assess companies’ actual contributions. By advocating for science-based targets, we aim to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Next week, I will be in New York for Climate Week, discussing the importance of the GCP with business leaders and policy makers looking to promote a circular economy shift to the benefit of our planet and all its inhabitants. "This report provides an in-depth analysis of the current landscape and highlights the gaps and opportunities within the circular economy to inform and guide future business practices and policy frameworks. Integrating circular economy practices into business models is crucial for driving systemic change and promoting sustainable resource management. However, businesses encounter challenges in measuring and disclosing these efforts due to a lack of standardized metrics and frameworks, which complicates target setting, benchmarking, and compliance amidst a rapidly evolving and inconsistent regulatory landscape. To address these challenges, existing legal frameworks and international standards must be realigned to support a circular economy, necessitating a unified global framework that promotes cross-sector collaboration, efficient capital allocation, and informed policy development." https://lnkd.in/ePMahYqu #CircularEconomyProgress

The Circular Economy presents a sustainable solution by emphasizing the reuse of resources, a concept that is gaining recognition globally. Despite its benefits, transitioning to this model requires a fundamental shift in how we produce, consume, and dispose of goods. To facilitate this transition, major industry players are spearheading the Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP). This initiative aims to establish a universal standard to assess and quantify the effectiveness of circular business practices. By adopting the GCP, companies can streamline their operations, reduce waste, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
