We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Energy Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh! Together, we are committed to helping the state achieve its transition to clean energy. Thank you Manu Srivastava for your continued leadership! #NewPartnership #Collaboration #EnergyTransition
WRI India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Energy Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP) with the aim of achieving the state’s commitments towards long-term clean energy and emissions reduction. Through this collaboration, WRI India intends to work together with the Energy Department, GoMP and MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) to support the state’s energy transition goals. This will be accomplished by co-developing an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to achieve optimal energy generation capacity mix, emission reduction, and clean energy targets. This partnership will serve as a model for other states on developing effective IRP processes through strengthening state’s capacity on using well-developed modelling tools that allow states to plan procurement of power optimally. In 2015 when the Paris Agreement was reached, its new goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C was at risk of being dead on arrival because the world was on the verge of a coal-plant-building boom. However, since then the amount of new coal power in development has fallen dramatically. Why? There are multiple reasons for the transformative change: 🔌Clean energy filled the gap 🏭Most of the biggest emitters announced goals to reach net-zero emissions 💰Large public financiers of coal projects committed to stop lending #SystemsChangeLab explores the history of coal plants cancellations in China, India and Vietnam to help understand how the world can speed up the cancellation of the remaining coal project pipeline:
