⚡New Study on the Impact of Women’s Energy Networks 🌍🔍 GWNET is pleased to share a study on women’s energy networks, whose research we supported through our participation in an interview. Titled "Assessment of the Role of Women’s Networks in Promoting Gender Equality, Women’s Leadership Development, and Knowledge Sharing Within the Energy Industry Globally," this study was conducted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH’s Sector Network Transport, Environment, Energy, and Water in Asia (TUEWAS ) in collaboration with an expert from EEN Vietnam. The research explores the effectiveness of such networks worldwide in advancing gender equality, leadership development, and knowledge sharing within the sector. The research also sets out best practices and recommendations for both emerging and existing networks aiming to enhance their operations and impact. GWNET is proud to share The Gender and Energy Compact's statement for International Day of Clean Energy. Learn more about the Compact and its mission to empower women in sustainable energy here: https://lnkd.in/dVn3bpEw https://lnkd.in/dWFWU5Gb #SDG7 #InternationalCleanEnergyDay #WomenInEnergy #EnergyTransition
Ensuring clean and affordable energy for everyone - SDG 7 - is essential for achieving gender equality and vice versa. Billions of women around the world still lack basic access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy, negatively impacting their health, well-being, livelihoods and local environment. At the same time, women have a critical role to play in achieving SDG7, but barriers remain. Ensuring access to clean, modern and sustainable energy solutions for women is a fundamental element of a just and inclusive energy transition. The International Day of Clean Energy is an important opportunity to reflect on progress made towards a just and inclusive energy transition and mobilize awareness and action. Energy Compacts are a significant opportunity for all stakeholders - including governments, the private sector and civil society - to register their energy commitments on the international stage. Join the Gender and Energy Compact and its co-convenors - ENERGIA - International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, UNIDO, GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) - to catalyze action towards gender equality and women’s empowerment to accelerate a just, inclusive and sustainable energy transition. #InternationalCleanEnergyDay #SDG7 #WomenInEnergy #EnergyTransition

⚡🌍 Don't miss this eye-opening opinion piece: “Post-2030 Vision: Prioritizing Gender Indicators for a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition” With just six years left to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), progress on gender equality remains alarmingly slow, as indicated by UN Women’s recent Gender Snapshot 2024. Meanwhile, despite the strong interrelation between gender and sustainable energy, #SDG7 - ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all - does not have a clear gender indicator. What steps can we take to address these gaps beyond 2030? Explore the challenges and opportunities in this insightful article. Read more: https://lnkd.in/evBbrS7F The opinion piece is written by Elizabeth Cecelski, Senior Technical Adviser at ENERGIA - International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, in collaboration with UN Women and co-convenors of the The Gender and Energy Compact co-convenors (GWNET: Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition, UNIDO, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)). #SDG7 #GenderAndEnergy #InclusiveEnergy #2030Agenda #SustainableDevelopment #JustTransition

💚🌍 January 26th marks International Clean Energy Day! On this occasion, we reflect on the urgent need for universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy (SDG 7) — a necessity for a sustainable future and an enabler for reaching many other SDGs. For GWNET, this day is also a reminder of the critical importance of including women in the energy transition. We firmly believe that diversity fuels innovation, creativity, and resilience in the energy sector, and that it is essential for women's voices to be amplified in energy and climate discussions. With less than 1/3 of women in the global renewable energy workforce and a growing future job market in this area, we need to attract more women to the sustainable energy sector and empower them in energy. As part of our mission to champion gender equality, we are proud to nurture a vibrant network of 4,600+ female energy professionals from 150+ countries, fostering opportunities for connection and professional growth. Through advocacy campaigns, supporting research on the gender-energy nexus, and running mentoring programmes, we remain committed to uplifting women who are reshaping the energy transition. Join the GWNET network today! We are delighted to feature Ruth Wambui Wambugu in our GWNET Member Spotlight! Passionate about advancing sustainable energy, Ruth previously took part in the Women in Clean Cooking Mentoring Programme, which is run by GWNET, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA). As Membership & Partnerships Officer at the Clean Cooking Association of Kenya (CCAK), she remains committed to promoting clean cooking as a means to achieve equitable energy access and improve communal livelihoods. In 2025, she will focus on helping CCAK member companies scale their operations through targeted advocacy, market access initiatives, and strategic partnerships to maximise their impact. Ruth also has been a vocal supporter of women in energy. Indeed, in a recent interview on the Credo Voices Podcast, Ruth criticised harmful gender stereotypes and championed women’s empowerment across all spheres of life. In her message to other women, she says “Do not be afraid to take up space and define your niche early in life. Grow together, work collaboratively, and pursue a common vision.” #WomenInEnergy #Cleancooking #EnergyTransition
