About us

Anglian Water supply water and water recycling services to more than six million domestic and business customers in the east of England and Hartlepool. Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. We clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out. We’re the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We’re also one of the driest regions in the country, with just 600 millimetres of rain each year, on average a third less than the rest of England. In fact some areas have a lower annual rainfall than Jerusalem. That’s why it’s vital that we look after the water that we’ve got.

Sometimes talking about money can lead to difficult and sensitive conversations, but our specially-trained customer support team are here to help customers find a way forward. We’ll always take the time to understand your situation and treat you with care and kindness. "I know that a collection occupation isn't an easy one. I'm sure that you all get so much disrespect when you are only doing a job to take care of your families. I liked Liane because I did not feel any aggression during our conversation. I like that, and that's why I gave a 10-star rating. Stay cool, Liane!" Customer feedback 🙌 We look after the people that look after you. That’s why we’re proud partners of the Service with Respect campaign, to support and protect both our customers and our front-line teams. To find out more visit https://lnkd.in/eAZtpVsX

Ahead of the Environment Agency, publishing its Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA) next week, we wanted to explain what exactly an EPA rating is and how it’s decided. While it does account for things such as total pollution incidents and discharge permit compliance, it doesn’t consider other factors like reduction of average storm spills or abstraction levels and biodiversity net gain. We know how important these measures are to our customers, communities, passionate river groups and regulators and, with that in mind, we wanted to highlight the great progress that's been made in these areas as a result of the significant investment we’ve made to accelerate our improvement in pollutions performance. We have achieved the lowest level of sewer blockages in five years, have had no serious pollutions from our network of sewers in 14 months and are continuing to roll out smart sewers at a rapid pace to ensure we can predict and prevent more incidents event faster. But it doesn't stop there.  We recently announced an additional £100 million provision from our shareholders that will be ploughed into smart technology, the creation of a 'spills taskforce' and improvements across our sewer network. This is in addition to the planned investment across our water recycling network and will take our total this year to almost half a billion pounds. Change of this scale takes time, but we're committed to doing right by our customers and the environment. https://lnkd.in/eaUCAmN3 CC: The Water Report #Investment #DoThingsDifferently

Nature-based solutions such as floodplains, are just one of the ways we can mitigate the risk of flooding and protect our region against extreme weather. Which is why, we're thrilled to have supported NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST with this restoration project💧 #Flooding #NatureBasedSolutions #Environment

Flourishing floodplains fill our hearts with joy! 🌿 For the first time in over 400 years, water flows onto these natural floodplains once more. Our project to create a new meandering channel, following its historic path, has been a tremendous success. Wetland habitats are thriving, as is the wildlife that calls it home. Dynamic rivers that spill onto functional floodplains and replenish wetlands in high flows are essential for mitigating the impact of climate breakdown and extreme weather. 💦 This project was completed in collaboration with Holkham, Charles Rangeley-Wilson OBE and Aquamaintain Ltd. With thanks to funding support from the #GreenRecoveryChallengeFund, Anglian Water Services and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. More info here: https://lnkd.in/enX9vPqA

Rivers are the lifeblood of our communities, and we know there is more to be done to improve and protect them. Which is why, we made a commitment to Get River Positive (GRP) with a series of pledges focused on improving river health and ensuring our assets are not a cause of harm for the environment🌍🌳 Since GRP began, we’ve been working on a vast programme of work, all with one goal in mind, improving river health. Working with river groups, farmers and passionate environmentalists, projects have ranged from nature-based solutions to funded citizen science and the creation of new wetlands and habitats. However, we know the hard work doesn’t stop there, which is why many of these projects will also be replicated in our five-year business plan from 2025-2030. The business plan we submitted, detailed a record investment of £4 billion to enhance the environment, which included, almost £600 million on our Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), £61 million on reducing flood risk and £308 million on resilience. We are currently reviewing Ofwat’s draft determination. In our latest blog, Anglian Water’s GRP Comms and Engagement Manager Katie Teesdale-Ward shares an update on the hive of activity that is GRP. CEO Designate at Anglian Water, whose purpose is to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region it serves through its commitment to ‘love every drop’.

The first nine days in my new role at Anglian Water Services have been pretty full-on, so it came as a welcome change on day ten to get out on site with Ian Hutchinson and some of his team from the Anglian Water @one Alliance. The alliance will have its biggest year in 2024/25, delivering nearly £400m of investment across dozens of projects across our network to increase the capacity and resilience of our service to customers. We visited the water recycling facility at Broadholme, where £30m is being invested to expand water recycling capability to serve the nearby towns of Rushden and Wellingborough. Much of the construction activity looks pretty familiar, but I was struck by the complexity of the process elements of the work, which will be an interesting and new area for me to learn! #waterrecycling #waterinfrastructure #capitalprojects

But we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. From helping an unprecedented number of vulnerable customers to investing a record amount into the prevention of pollution and spills.   Tomorrow, we find out the draft determination from Ofwat on our business plan for 2025-2030. If approved, this plan sets out our largest and most ambitious plan yet, worth over £9 billion. Read more https://lnkd.in/gdZMq3pJ   #AnnualReport #CapitalInvestment #BusinessPlan

Nature-based solutions, like treatment wetlands, are a key part of our vision for the future. With a growing population, our sewer networks are having to process increasing amounts of human and domestic waste, so we’re always looking for more natural alternatives. As seen in this BBC article, the power of wetlands is not to be underestimated. In addition to helping naturally remove unwanted chemicals, they also have a positive impact on our region’s river health and biodiversity. Our work with NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST on the #Stiffkey and #Ingoldisthorpe wetlands has demonstrated the true benefit partnership working can have on environmental quality. These wetlands are only the start. If approved by Ofwat later this week, our proposed business plan for 2025-2030, proposes a record investment of £4 billion to enhance the environment. This includes an ambitious goal of building nature-based solutions the equivalent of football pitches. Today, our CEO Peter Simpson and future CEO Mark Thurston attended a Business in the Community event in #Wisbech where we were jointly showcasing the #FutureFens programme – a place-based approach to protect the Fens against the impacts of climate change and deliver social prosperity for one of our region’s most deprived areas. On the back of the event, Anglian Water and its alliance partners, announced £2m of partnership funding for new Green Skills Academy in Wisbech, which will fund the training of 900 people in vital environmental skills. The Fens in the East of England are among the places most exposed to the impact of climate change. On the frontline of rising sea levels, at growing risk of severe tidal flooding, and located in the driest part of the country, where water shortages are, without investment, a very real and increasing risk. But despite these challenges, this landscape has over half of the UK’s most fertile land. Dubbed the breadbasket of Britain, it supplies a fifth of the nation's crops and one third of its vegetables, so it protecting it is vital. During his time as CEO at Anglian Water, Peter Simpson has played a pivotal role chairing a taskforce to bring like-minded leaders and companies together with a vision for The Fens; creating a pipeline for green jobs, better transport links, and new housing projects, centred around a reservoir that will be used for flood alleviation as well as water supply.  Demonstrated as a global exemplar of landscape-scale climate adaptation at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, Future Fens: Integrated Adaptation is a longstanding collaboration between local, regional and national partners including Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, Water Resources East Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Lincs CountyCouncil to realise the opportunities and potential within this area. Find out more about the Green Skills Academy here ➡ https://lnkd.in/e4YKmfVB #Skills #Economy #ResponsibleBusiness #TogetherWithAnglianWater
