In 2024, we secured planning consent for an ambitious residential-led regeneration project in Southampton. The site previously had planning permission for an 11-storey PBSA scheme - an inward-looking development that offered little to the wider community. Our revised proposal is a 17-storey co-living scheme designed to deliver meaningful regeneration. This project not only meets the needs of residents, the operator and the investor, but also brings wider community benefits beyond the site boundary - an example of our Positive Legacy Commitment in action. Key features include: ▶️ Community spaces – A new South Yard, creating opportunities for pop-up businesses as the neighbourhood evolves, alongside a café that will be accessible to all ▶️ Public realm improvements – Creating a more welcoming and accessible environment for existing residents and those moving through the area, with improved routes across the railway to encourage connectivity ▶️ Biodiversity improvements– Delivering more than 3500% net gain through nature corridors at ground level and a mix of green and brown roofs at upper levels. A truly regenerative approach that can enhance the city of Southampton and deliver lasting value. #CoLiving #SharedLiving #ForABetterTomorrow #BiodiversityNetGain #Southampton Urban Wilderness Curtins CPW James Alexander Design

We’re rounding off the week with some excellent news on our Hind Street project in Birkenhead. 🟢 It has received the green light from Wirral Council for the development of 1500 new homes over 27 acres, with Phase One delivering 633 homes and more than 14,000 sq ft of commercial space! 🎉 Our civils, environmental and geotechnical teams will now commence work on the final stages of the technical design for the enabling works, to allow Phase One of this exciting Birkenhead masterplan to continue. Well done to everyone who has contributed to getting the scheme to this point, including project client Ion Property Developments Limited, Plan-It Landscape, and Architect BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd). https://lnkd.in/dFcFPc6W Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the launch event for the new sustainable town development at Brabazon by YTL Developments (UK) Limited. It was great to see the positive energy at the event, shining a light on a fantastic vision from YTL on creating a unique destination in North Bristol as well as hearing some excellent speeches from YTL about the background to the vision and opportunities in the area as well as the Malaysian Prime Minister highlighting the new trade deal between the UK and Malaysia in support of the investment in schemes like Brabazon. At Curtins, we have had the pleasure of being engaged to provide Civil & Structural Engineering, GeoEnvironmental Engineering and Transport Planning services on the first phase of 1500 beds of student accommodation, working in colaboration with YTL Construction UK (Sebastian Loyn, Kern Young, Andrew Moore & James Marley), Stride Treglown (Matt Tarling & Lee Diggle), Turner & Townsend FP McCann Ltd (Gavin Lowe) & Method Consulting (Matt Smith), where the substructures are almost complete and the precast concrete frame is being erected at the moment. I'm immensely proud that our team have been involved in such a prestigious project for the region and look forward to working on our next commission at Brabazon featuring the new office and train station

📣 We are pleased to announce a significant leadership transition! Neil Parkinson has assumed the role as our Chief Executive, succeeding Rob Melling, who has led us with distinction for the past 20 years. Neil brings over 30 years of experience to the role. He began his journey with Curtins as an Apprentice in Liverpool in 1992 and has since demonstrated unwavering dedication and expertise. Rob Melling, now retired after a remarkable 43-year career that also began at apprentice, has been a pillar of strength and vision for Curtins. His leadership has been marked by compassion, humility, and a relentless drive to enhance Curtins for the benefit of both our clients and people. Reflecting on his decision, Rob Melling stated, “Curtins has been my entire career and a significant part of my life. I am confident that now is the right time for me to step down. The business is in its strongest position ever, with robust leadership, a resilient operational structure, and a healthy market share.” Rob added, “Neil is the ideal person to take on this role. He knows the business inside out, and his passion and experience are perfectly suited to continue building on Curtins’ legacy and leading the company into a bright and exciting future.” As Neil transitions from the Board to his new executive role, his guiding principle is to “look to the future whilst building on the past.” Neil’s deep emotional connection to Curtins and our legacy, combined with his forward-looking vision, positions him to lead us in delivering projects that truly improve and regenerate the communities we serve. As a two-time 2024 Consultancy of the Year winner, we are renowned for our diverse sector expertise and project portfolio, ranging from £100,000 to billion-pound masterplans. We're proud that our impact extends significantly into social value initiatives, including a continuing partnership with The Purpose Coalition to advocate for legislative changes supporting gender equality in construction. Neil Parkinson, our new CEO, commented, “I am absolutely thrilled to take on this role and I’m eager to serve our business and everyone in it. I am passionate about Curtins’ awe-inspiring projects and the positive impact we have on people’s lives. We have a strong foundation to build on, and I am energised by the strength of our senior management, digital technology, and collective ownership, which will enable us to innovate, collaborate, and deliver the best for our clients.” We welcome Neil into his new role with much excitement for the year ahead, as well as the for the future which promises to be bright under his steady leadership. #WeAreCurtins #BuildingABetterFuture #Leadershipchange #CEO #Businessnews #constultancy
