Today’s announcement of the £9bn Unity agreement between the UK Ministry of Defence and Rolls-Royce is a testament to the power of partnership. This landmark contract will drive the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly nuclear submarine reactors, while creating over 1,000 new jobs and safeguarding 4,000 more – a huge boost for Derby, the Midlands but also on the UK’s industrial and economic future. At Indurent, we’re proud of our part in supporting Rolls-Royce’s ambitions. Just last week, we announced the handover of a c.148,000 sq ft bespoke warehouse at Indurent Park Derby. Built to the highest sustainability standards (BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC A+), this facility enhances Rolls-Royce’s manufacturing operations while reinforcing Derby’s position as a leader in high-tech R&D, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. Together, these milestones demonstrate the Midlands’ critical role in driving innovation, supporting high-growth sectors, and strengthening the UK’s global competitiveness. #Innovation #Manufacturing #Midlands #Jobs #EconomicGrowth

  • Taking Care of the Natural Environment – Derby Wakemans are engaged on some major infrastructure projects across the UK, and it is important to protect the natural area where these sites are based as well as provide the necessary platform to enable site development. Our responsibilities as Project Manager involves working with Contractors and specialist Consultants to carefully preserve natural flora and fauna, providing a landscape that works for the Developer, the Environment Agency, the Occupier plus helping to deliver local sustainability objectives. This also results in these developments being surrounded by natural landscaping benefitting residents and those ultimately employed on the site. One such major project based in Derby involved the delivery of over 20 acres of natural landscaping and supporting Derby City Council’s ‘Our City Our River’ scheme (OCOR). The brownfield site is situated close to the river Derwent and required flood mitigation strategies and significant earthworks. As a part of the works a fish refuge was created with the purpose of protecting vital fish populations across the East Midlands, part of the Environment Agency objective to provide shelter to fish from extreme weather and flooding. The provision of the refuge encourages spawning and survival of juvenile fish by providing high vegetation which protects from predators. Wakemans were employed on this project by Indurent as Cost Consultants, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and Principal Designers. The Contractor was Winvic. Indurent is invested in delivering developments that focus on environmental responsibility, health and wellbeing, and the long-term needs of businesses and employees alike. ⭕ 2024 highlights: Rolls-Royce is doubling the size of its Raynesway site in Derby which will create 1,170 direct jobs and hundreds more across the UK's supply chain. The huge expansion is required to meet the growth in demand from the Royal Navy and to supply all the nuclear reactor plants that will power the new attack submarines as part of AUKUS - the recently announced tri-lateral agreement between Australia, the UK and US. Rolls-Royce Submarines currently employs more than 4,000 people and designs, manufactures and provides in-service support to the pressurised water reactors that power every boat in the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.

#Travelodge has completed the acquisition of a hotel in Barcelona - the 6th and final hotel acquired as part of the previously reported deal agreed with Louvre Hotels Group earlier this year.  Travelodge Barcelona Cornella Fira is a 138-room hotel that Travelodge will operate on a long-leasehold basis. The five other hotels in this deal located in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and Murcia were acquired on a freehold basis and completed in April. The acquisition builds on Travelodge’s existing strongly performing Spanish business, bringing its presence in the Spanish market to 12 hotels. Link in comments to learn more.

  • Supporting St David's Hospice (North Wales) Instead of sending out Christmas cards the Wakemans Caernarfon team will be making a donation to St David’s Hospice (North Wales). Every year a charity is picked to highlight in our Christmas message. The team is currently working on a project to refurbish the hospice at Abbey Road, Llandudno, so picking this charity to support this year was an obvious choice. • 40 Years of Service Recognised Our Chief Executive and Joint Managing Director Dean Watson has celebrated a milestone in his career. 2024 marked 40 years of service with Wakemans Limited. Dean has come a long way since 1984 when he joined as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. The staff joined Shaun Baugh Joint Managing Director in congratulating Dean on his dedication to both his chosen profession and the company. Dean is pictured here alongside Shaun giving a short speech to the Wakemans team after receiving a card (photoshopped in true Aston Villa style) and gift to mark the occasion.    Congratulations to Dean from all of your colleagues at Wakemans. #professionalconstruction #costmangement #quantitysurveying
