I participated in a highly insightful and informative event jointly organised by Cloud Infrastructure Service Providers in Europe (#CISPE) and the European Data Centre Association (#EUDCA) in Brussels on December 4th. The event focused on the vital role that data centres play in the European Union's dual transition towards a digital and green economy. Key takeaways from the event included insights into how data centres contribute to the decarbonisation of the EU's energy system, support broader sustainability objectives, and drive technological advancements across various sectors through transformational technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Attendees included newly elected MEPs and policymakers who are now better informed about the importance, need, and operation of data centres in society. Data strategy in Europe will change completely with the Data Act that entered in force in January 2024. A new #digitaldecade is going to start in Europe with it. With the digital, user-centred transport services we aim for at ULTIMO project this is extremely relevant for us. So we are very grateful for the #keynote of our project partner Arthur van der Wees this morning. He showed us the contents of the Data Act and what opportunities the law unleashes. His advice on data strategy and design is absolutely invaluable to us.
