We are delighted to announce that work is due to commence on a development of much-need affordable homes in Peebles, on behalf of Eildon Housing Association. Tweedbridge Court, which has been renamed locally as Caledonian Court to reflect the area’s rich railway history, is a new sustainable and energy efficient initiative which will include 22 newly built apartments featuring a mix of 14 three-bedroom lower colony homes and eight two-bedroom upper colony homes. We will be delivering the project, which has been designed to fit in seamlessly to the surrounding community, to replace the long derelict site which was also previously used for housing. Our Managing Director, Gary McGregor, said: “It is great to be starting work on this modern, energy efficient development following the confirmation of vital funding to enable works to move forward. “Caledonian Court sits on a prime location within Peebles, where the affordable housing provision needs to be increased, so we are proud to play our part in bringing these plans to fruition and breathing new life into this area of the town. “This is our first project with Eildon Housing Association, so we look forward to building a strong working relationship with them and progressing with the development over the coming months.” Neil Wilson-Prior, Eildon’s Director of Property Assets said ‘We are keen to get started with this project and help to address the housing emergency that has been declared in the Borders and across Scotland. “This development is a fantastic opportunity to also bring many benefits to Peebles including our support of local initiatives, and we’re already working with Cycling without Age whose volunteers offer a fantastic service in the town. Caledonian Court will provide storage for the Peebles Trishaw, to enable local elderly people to get out and about in the community. We are delighted we can help out with this fabulous project.” We will be working with engineers Harley Haddow and architects CSY Architects to deliver the project. #thejrgroup #affordablehomes #peeblesproject #eildonha Read more here https://bit.ly/4j9xdpo

After nearly two decades designing affordable housing projects in Southern California, ED1 marks a significant shift that truly feels transformative. It's the first time I've witnessed a change that appears poised to make a substantial impact. Now, we're eagerly awaiting to see if the private sector can harness this momentum, turning this surge of entitlements into tangible, impactful projects. Fingers crossed for what lies ahead. https://lnkd.in/gJTa6Qeu

Two decades of plans to regenerate Morden, and still… nothing yet. Having lived in Merton for two years, I see how much this area could do with a fresh start. The council has recently announced £300,000 to ‘brighten and refresh’ the area in 2024-25. However, Merton Council’s leader, Councillor Ross Garrod, described the larger regeneration project as a “slow burner,” citing funding challenges as a key obstacle. While there are some steps aim to improve the area in the short term, the long-term redevelopment of Morden remains uncertain, leaving many residents questioning what’s next. Is the issue a lack of funding, or the absence of strong local investment mechanisms? 🤔 #regeneration #development https://lnkd.in/eQbCAD4U

Revised plans for Crossgates housing development submitted to Fife Council 🏘️ Persimmon North Scotland has submitted a revised planning application for a residential development in #Crossgates, #Fife, following discussions with the local community and Fife Council. Located on land to the west of Old Perth Road, the updated proposal aligns with the Fife Local Development Plan. Originally planned for 210 homes, the project has been scaled back to 191 units to ensure it meets local planning requirements and enhances connections within the Crossgates area. The development will comprise 181 private homes in a mix of two- to four-bedroom designs, alongside 10 homes allocated to a local housing association to assist families in housing need. Key features of the revised plans include accessible open spaces, a segregated active travel route connecting Manse Road to B981 Main Street, and enhancements to the surrounding public spaces. Public art installations and seating areas offering views across Crossgates are also planned to enrich the community landscape. Persimmon North Scotland will continue to work closely with Fife Council to ensure the development supports local infrastructure and aligns with community priorities. If approved, the development is expected to generate 70 local construction jobs and support an additional 53 roles within the supply chain, contributing to the local economy. #PersimmonHomes

One of the most common refrains is that if you build it, they will come. While there is some commercial development, the expansion of Horse Pen Creek has primarily driven much-needed housing development, especially in #multifamily communities (including local companies Blue Ridge Companies, Hawthorne Residential Partners, The Carroll Companies, among others). Our region needs more of this type of #infrastructure investment to ensure we can support economic growth.
