If you feel apprehensive about your first group therapy session, here are 3 ways to prepare and make the most out of your sessions. 1️⃣ Be clear on the group rules Take a moment to understand what is expected of all group members, if you are unsure then speak to the group analyst leading the group beforehand. They will be able to reassure you and answer any questions. 2️⃣ Set your personal goals Think about what you'd like to achieve through group therapy. You will have discussed these with the group analyst before joining the group, these may change over time but having clear goals when you start is a good idea 3️⃣ Prepare to share Group therapy is a collaborative effort. Embrace the power of sharing. Be open about your experiences and, equally important, lend a listening ear to others. The richness of the group lies in the exchange of perspectives and stories. Just one more thing 👇 Confidentiality is key to group therapy. What's shared in the group stays in the group. This creates a safe space for vulnerability and authentic connection. We are a network of experienced and highly qualified group analysts running groups online and in person. You can check which groups have availability on our websites. #mentalhealth #therapy #grouptherapy #wellbeing

How to Prepare for Your First Therapy session Congratulations on taking the first step towards healing and growth! Preparing for your initial therapy session can help you feel more comfortable and get the most out of your experience. Here are some tips to help you prepare: 1. Identify Your Goals - What brings you to therapy at this time? - What are your hopes and expectations for therapy? - What specific issues or challenges do you want to address? Writing down your goals can help you clarify what you want to achieve in therapy. 2. Gather Information - Write down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to the issues you want to address. - Consider keeping a journal or log to track your emotions and patterns. - Be prepared to share this information with your therapist. 3. Understand Confidentiality - Know that everything discussed in therapy is confidential and protected by law. - Understand the limits of confidentiality (e.g., if you're a danger to yourself or others). 4. Ask Questions - Prepare a list of questions to ask your therapist, such as: - What approach or methods will you use? - How will we work together? - How often will we meet? - How will we measure progress? Note: Read the previous post on questions you should ask. 5. Be Honest and Open - Be prepared to share openly and honestly about your experiences. - Remember that your therapist is there to support and help you. 6. Set Boundaries - Discuss what you're comfortable sharing and what you're not. - Establish boundaries and expectations for the therapy relationship. 7. Plan Logistics - Know the location, time, and duration of the session. - Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork. 8. Take Care of Yourself - Get a good night's sleep before the session. - Eat well and stay hydrated. - Engage in self-care activities to help you relax and feel grounded.( A walk would do) By following these tips, you can feel more prepared and empowered as you start your therapy journey. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process, and your active participation is key to getting the most out of it. #therapy #mentalhealth #selfcare #mentalhealthmatters #SpreadCompassion #healingjourney #trauma

Progress in Therapy Takes Time..... As a therapist, I have come to appreciate the level of patience and skills required to support clients on their journey. Recently, after a few months of weekly sessions, a client shared a touching realization with me: "If I keep giving life the opportunity, it will never become what I want. But now, I feel proud in a new way. I'm ready to learn and see myself as a kind, caring, and compassionate person. I strive to be good and considerate, without causing harm. I am ready to learn and learned that people can no longer take undue advantage of me." She has made remarkable progress in differentiating between what she wants and does not want in interpersonal relationships. She understands and practices healthy boundaries, and the activities we've worked on between sessions have helped her reflect and apply these insights in her daily life. Hearing this was a truly blissful moment for me :) It’s these moments of genuine progress and self-awareness that make this work so fulfilling. Have you experienced similar moments in your practice? I would love to hear your stories and thoughts in the comments below :) Let's support and inspire each other on this meaningful journey. #Therapy #MentalHealth #Progress #Compassion #Patience #TherapistLife #HealingJourney #TherapistCommunity

🌟 Addressing Humility in Therapy: A Path to Genuine Connection 🌟 In the world of therapy, humility isn't just a trait—it's a necessity. As therapists, our ultimate goal is to foster a safe and supportive environment for our clients. Yet, without humility, we risk creating barriers instead of bridges. It's crucial to recognize that our clients come with their own stories, strengths, and perspectives. By embracing humility, we ensure we listen more and dictate less, empowering clients to take an active role in their healing journey. Humility allows us to: Understand rather than assume Empathize rather than judge Collaborate rather than control At Flower In The Wind Therapy, we strive to embody these principles, ensuring our clients feel valued and heard. Let's champion humility and make therapy a truly collaborative process. 🌿 How do you see humility playing a role in effective therapy? As a therapy client, do you ever worry on your way to a session that you have “nothing” to talk about? Oooo these can be some of the BEST sessions! Even if you don’t know what to talk about in session, a good therapist will guide organic conversation that often leads to uncovering topics or emotions that clients may not have initially been aware of. This can help identify underlying issues or patterns that need to be addressed, without other curation. A good therapist will have a sense of how to prompt the client or pull in threads that have come up previously. Following this natural conversation can foster trust and collaboration in the therapeutic relationship. So don’t worry if you don’t have an agenda or aren’t sure what to bring up. There’s magic in trusting the process, even then. ❤️ I always leave room for this as a speaker, too. Of course I outline and plan talking points, but my favorite part is the organic convo that happens when attendees are invited to interact. I try to keep the room vibe casual, so that people can ask unfiltered questions or share insights that we then riff off of. That’s what allows those in the room to truly feel understood and to relate. #therapy #therapist #mentalhealth #keynotespeaker
