About us

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. UNDP Nepal has been supporting the people of Nepal in battling poverty and related challenges since it opened an in-country office in 1963. Much of this support has gone into building the capacity of government agencies, civil society and community groups, and into bringing these groups and donors together to design and implement successful interventions in poverty alleviation. UNDP Nepal works together with the people and the Government Nepal, the international development partners and the private sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

🌍✨ Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future ✨🌱 On this International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate the incredible contributions of rural and indigenous women as environmental stewards, food providers, and leaders in climate resilience. 🌾🌳 Women produce half of the world’s food and lead the way in sustainable farming, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation. They hold ancestral knowledge and employ practices that protect the planet, all while driving climate action for future generations. 💪🍂 Yet, the effects of climate change hit women the hardest. It’s time to recognize their work, promote gender equality, and ensure their voices are heard in decision-making processes. 🗣️🤝 When rural women thrive, everyone thrives. Let’s build a future where women in rural areas have the same opportunities as men and continue their essential role in achieving #ZeroHunger and a sustainable world. 🌍

🌍✨Happy World Teacher's Day!✨📚 Today, we celebrate the incredible impact teachers have on our lives. But did you know? 📉 During the 2015 Earthquake in Nepal: - 8,242 community schools were affected. - Over 1 million children lost their school buildings. Education is a privilege, especially in the rural regions of Nepal, where challenges like poor sanitation and infrastructure persist. In Madhesh province, the education rate remains low, highlighting the urgent need for change. UNDP’s 'Support to Schools and Communities in Remote Areas for Pandemic Prevention and Green Recovery' project supported by China Aid is working to ensure that 15,000 students in Madhesh province receive the education they deserve💚.
