The Eurban team is currently on site at the University of Bristol’s Langford Campus installing a two-storey CLT and glulam extension to the existing Bristol Veterinary School. The mass timber structure has been designed to be flexible and future-proofed with a simple energy efficient design and robust detailing. Internally, light will be maximised by a south facing glazed wall combined with skylights, and glulam columns and beams will be exposed throughout creating a warm yet contemporary aesthetic. Congratulations to all at Haworth Tompkins on their multiple wins at the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry (CFCI) Awards for Pembroke Mill Lane (Phase 1) EURBAN Limited are proud to have been involved in the delivery of this landmark development which creates a new College court and associated spaces for the 14th Century Pembroke College, Cambridge. Our involvement concentrated on the intricate architectures of the Gate House, Foyer and School House for which we designed, supplied and installed the mass timber frame formed of oak glulam columns and beams and CLT decks. The oak beams and columns are exposed throughout and, alongside handmade brickwork, are a celebration of craftsmanship and continue the architecturally rich history of this inner city University Campus. It is great to see the Judges comment on the need for ‘craft skills’ in the delivery of this project, which demonstrates the important synergy between design and specialist craftsmanship that is key to the successful delivery of high-quality mass timber buildings. Good to see The Rye by Tikari Works featuring in this two-year research study into the potential of timber’s whole life carbon and quality of life benefits. The use of CLT for the superstructure at the Rye, including all internal walls and staircases, helped achieve efficiency of material use for the project which was a key design consideration, as was CLT’s ability to store carbon for the life of the building. It was good to hear about the development of Alliance for Sustainable Building Products IMPACTT research project at their Healthy Buildings Conference earlier this week. We’re pleased to have two of our projects included in this unique research project which bridges the gap between forestry and construction by raising awareness about sustainable forestry practices and the environmental impacts of sourcing timber. The first of EURBAN Limited mass timber projects to be featured is Hope Street - a progressive pilot project by Snug Architects for One Small Thing, a charity that supports a trauma informed alternative to custodial prison sentences for women. This groundbreaking project is shortlisted for the 2025 RIBA South Awards and in 2024 won at the CIVIC TRUST AWARDS as well as winning the RIBA MacEwan Award when the judges described it as ‘Architecture that is healing people’ and ‘a generous and visionary scheme that almost had one of the judges in tears.’ Hope Street Images: Fotohaus Ltd Mike Worthington Stora Enso Chisolm and Winch Also featured is Northstowe Secondary College by Frank Shaw Associates which forms a key part of the first phase of a major new housing development of up to 10,000 homes located on the former RAF Oakington base, north west of Cambridge. Eurban’s Director of Projects Dayo Shittu-Balogun joins the panel of speakers at Alliance for Sustainable Building Products Healthy Buildings Conference & Expo 2025 which takes place in London on Wednesday 26 February. Dayo will be presenting a case study of The Cascade project in Cardiff - the first mid-rise residential mass timber structure to be delivered in the UK in recent years. EURBAN Limited designed, supplied and installed the seven-storey CLT superstructure for the scheme which is being delivered by Langstone Construction Group Ltd for Linc Cymru. Once completed the new building will house 48 high quality, affordable one-bedroom apartments and two retail units. Also on the day ASBP will be sharing findings of IMPACTT, a research project to raise awareness about sustainable forestry practices and the environmental impacts of sourcing timber. Congratulations from all at Eurban to Chris Dyson Architects on being shortlisted at the RIBA London Awards for The Greenhill Building at Harrow Arts Centre. EURBAN Limited are proud to have designed, supplied and installed the CLT for this versatile space. The two-storey, ‘L’ shaped building houses two large teaching spaces on the ground floor which open onto a courtyard and two top-lit teaching rooms and a small studio above. [Lyde Green Superstructure] Lyde Green Community School Client: BAM Construction Location: Emersons Green, Bristol Sector: Education Lyde Green School is progressing quickly on site. With the CLT construction and installation of the timber I-joists well underway by EURBAN Limited, the Primary School’s structural envelope looks to finish this month, with the Secondary School following on afterwards. CLT has many benefits to the construction of this Passivhaus school, such as a lower thermal conductivity than other traditional methods of construction as well as its improved airtightness properties. It is great to see the published images of Harrow Arts Centre. Eurban were involved in the design, supply, and installation appointed by CityAxis Limited. Harrow Arts Centre is a versatile space housing large open-plan teaching spaces on the ground floor, and smaller ‘studio’ based classrooms on the first floor. Thoughtfully designed by Chris Dyson Architects, Eurban assisted in timber construction, as a low-carbon and low-waste alternative.
