Food systems involve complex challenges, which call for a systemic, multi-level and multistakeholder participatory approach for addressing issues across economic, social and environmental dimensions. This is the so-called food systems approach. Multistakeholder collaboration therefore needs to be an essential pillar of the food systems approach and the transition to sustainable food systems. With the UN Environment Programme and FAO, we came together to consolidate learnings and tools, gathered from within and beyond our three United Nations agencies in order to provide a practical guide for multi-stakeholder collaboration. This guide is intended for institutions and facilitators responsible for leading multi-stakeholder initiatives that are inclusive of government and essential non-governmental actors committed to contributing to the sustainable transformation of food systems. 1 out of 11 people are hungry in the world. The world faces a multidimensional planetary crisis of nature loss, climate change and ecosystem collapse, driving 2.33 billion people to be food insecure. This is being undermined by human behaviour, placing serious constraints on our food, water, land and energy security, threatening our economies, equality, peace, health, wellbeing, and that of future generations. To end hunger and #EndPoverty, we need a new paradigm---one that breaks down silos hindering progress and embraces a system-wide approach to build resilient food systems. Our latest White Paper highlights 4 key areas to reform to strengthen sustainability and resilience: 🏦 Improving governance ♻️ Addressing unsustainable drivers 🍎 Building a fair food value chain 🌱 Providing sustainable finance Read our Deputy Director for the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support Francine Pickup's latest op-ed in El Pais about our hopes and actions towards the future of global food systems: https://lnkd.in/dD_ma5tA
