We really enjoyed the conversations on yesterday's webinar "Harnessing Diverse Proteins to Nourish LMIC Populations". Some of the key pointers we gathered include: ✒Simple resolutions such as changing the name from "alternative" proteins to "diverse" proteins, could go a long way in promoting adaptation of various protein sources within LMICs. 🍛It is important to realize that populations consume foods, not single proteins therefore the conversation should be in view of the entire food matrix. 📊Evidence from research generates information that directs interventions and policy around diet diversity. 🍲School feeding programmes have proven to be effective mediums for the uptake of diverse protein sources including locally procured high iron beans and pelagic fish thus supporting local smallholder livelihoods 🔪Chefs are key stakeholders in efforts to shape consumer habits and food systems transformation as they influence what the population eats by the trends they create. 🥩Appreciation and consumption of alternative (diverse) proteins in LMICs may be increased by making scientific information available to the population and by incorporating local textures, flavors, tastes and names. The Seattle Fish Company & Lombardi Brothers Meats 2023 Impact Report provides an #innovative method to make decisions about the impact of seafood products we consume. By combining their recent Scope 1-2 Emissions, with publicly available Scope 3 data on seafood - Seattle Fish Company & Lombardi Brothers Meats has advanced a rough estimate of the carbon intensity of various seafood products. Not surprisingly, shellfish commands a spot as the least carbon intensive choice. Kudos to Hamish Walker for the leadership, analysis, and transparency on this effort, Savanna Ronco for the great work to package and publish, and to Seattle Fish Company & Lombardi Brothers Meats for the continued commitment to #innovate and educate. #sustainability #carbonintensity #innovation

It evaluates factors such as sourcing practices and the ecological footprint of the products, ensuring responsible and sustainable seafood consumption.   🤝 SFC employees donated 320+ volunteer hours through local non-profits We Don't Waste and Project Angel Heart, cutting, packaging, and sorting food for the community.   Our leadership aspiration is to Lead the Growth of Sustainable Seafood, and that wouldn't be possible without the combined efforts of our employees, vendors, and customers. As reflected in their successful efforts to raise €8,890 so far in 2024, we have been able to contribute to meaningful causes by esteemed organisations such as ClientEarth, National Geographic Society, EuroNatur Foundation, WWF, The Ocean Cleanup, Rainforest Foundation UK, and Waterkeeper Alliance! 🚀 We have an amazing engagement team that gamified sustainability initiatives and enabled everyone to partake in different challenges. Did you know that the United Nations developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a roadmap for creating a more sustainable and equitable world? There are 17 SDGs, and we'll be exploring each one, offering clear and concise definitions for you.
