Get Into Resources Inc.

What an incredible day! Yesterday, I had the privilege of escorting Year 10 students through various sessions led by professionals from the resources industry at the Get Into Resources Inc. event. Sadly, none of the students in my group expressed interest in pursuing a career in the resources industry when asked at the start of the event. I anticipated a challenging day ahead, hoping to convince at least a few of them of the industry's immense opportunities. However, as the event progressed, it became clear that the GIR event and the dedicated industry professionals were the true influencers! The sessions were informative, engaging, and fun. The presenters were so compelling that I even considered returning to a FIFO role or exploring a new profession myself! By the end of the day, the students' perspectives had significantly shifted, with many now considering careers in the resources sector—a tremendous win for our industry. While it's tempting to think our work is done, this event highlighted to me that the younger generation still lacks adequate knowledge about our remarkable industry. Ensuring that teachers, coordinators, and students are well-informed about the diverse opportunities available in the resources sector is crucial for attracting smart and passionate recruits in the future. As Jade Singleton aptly stated in her opening speech, "If you can’t grow it, you have to mine it." There will always be a demand for what we provide. We must intensify our efforts to reach the next generation and their mentors to guarantee our industry's growth and sustained success. Calling all resource professionals with a passion for inspiring the next generation, we need your help to make this year’s event the best one yet. 🔗 LINK TO REGISTER: https://lnkd.in/g_xU9YZj Event Details: 📆 Date: 25th–27th June, 2024 📍Location: North Metropolitan Tafe, 140 Royal Street, East Perth About the event: Get into Resources is a unique 3-day careers event designed to showcase the resources industry to 10th grade students. Students are guided through a series of activities hosted by industry, covering a range of different resource-related disciplines. Our aim is to help students fully comprehend the opportunities the resource sector offers and the career options available to get them there! About the role: Volunteers will be split into two categories: industry professionals and guide volunteers. Industry professionals are responsible for facilitating an interactive, hands-on activity for student groups, showcasing a particular career, profession, or trade in an ATAR or VET stream. Guide volunteers will be assigned a group of Year 10 students for the day and will accompany them to each activity, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time. You'll have the opportunity to share your experiences in the mining sector with your group and help inspire them about the possibilities of a career in mining! Event days run approximately from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., please note, you do not have to be available for all 3 days to participate!
