Brussels greeted us with rain and chilly weather, but the Ship-aH2oy team brought the sunshine! 🌦️☀️ Joined by our Project Officer George Sarros and Head of Sector, Aviation and Waterborne Research and Unnovation, Gabriel Mialocq of CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, we sat down to review our achievements so far and discuss our next steps. With the progress we've made in the first stage of the project, we’re ready to push ahead with the goal of demonstrating zero-emission shipping using liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) and fuel cell technology. Our clear mission is to turn this innovative concept into reality onboard one of Edda Wind’s cutting-edge offshore wind vessels 🚢 Big thanks to CINEA/European Commission and our partners for your support in this bold endeavour. Let’s keep the momentum going – rain or shine! 🌧️✨ VTT | Edda Wind | Østensjø Rederi | Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime | FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg | Siemens Energy | DNV Hellas | ESI Ltd. 🙏 Thank you, WaterborneTP, for showcasing Ship-aH2oy and our innovative strides toward zero-emission shipping! We're excited for the future of clean waterborne transport 🌊⚡
A combination of liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) and hydrogen fuel cell technology as part of the transition to zero-emission waterborne transport. Today, the Ship-aH2oy project is in the spotlight as part of our social media campaign "Meet the Projects". Horizon Europe and the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport are key funding tools to enhance Technology Leadership in the WaterborneTP sector. Ship-aH2oy aims to demonstrate the feasibility of the LOHC–fuel cell concept as a safe and sustainable solution for power and heat generation onboard ships. A first-of-its-kind 1 MW LOHC–fuel cell power system will be installed and demonstrated onboard an existing offshore wind vessel to enable zero-emission operations. The vessel is part of Edda Wind’s growing fleet of vessels which are prepared for the future installation of the LOHC–FC system, providing a clear path to exploitation. A comprehensive replication study will assess the potential for larger systems and application to other shipping segments, including ROPAX vessels. Join us for a tour onboard Edda Wind's pioneering hydrogen-ready offshore wind vessel! In October, the consortium was thrilled to this beautiful vessel under construction at GONDAN Shipbuilders - Astilleros Gondán. Like its sister vessels, it is built with dedicated space for the future installation of the LOHC-based zero-emission power system that we are developing in Ship-aH2oy ✨ (PS: Since our visit, the Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) has been successfully delivered to its owner and baptised Vestri Enabler 🍾) Markus Rautanen | Øystein Skår | Ellen Sofie Hiberg Ottesen | Alberto Clemente | VTT | Østensjø Rederi | Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime | FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg | Siemens Energy | DNV Hellas | ESI Ltd.
