It's part of a five-book series that explores principles of uncertainty. Highly recommend these books if strategy is your thing. One theme explored in this book is the difference between "doers" and "talkers". It also explores risk appetite and offers strategies to move from risk adverse decision making (fragile) to risk positive decision making (antifragile) as a wise economic approach. UNIDO calls for us to "work collectively to promote, advance and mobilize climate change technologies with zest. And that it is clear that knowledge sharing will provide the leverage needed for others to learn, plan and implement their own bioenergy projects". The take home for me is that it takes "doers" and "talkers" to work collectively to achieve change. I'm proud of the work we do at Sustainability Victoria having put skin in the game to advance the uptake of bioenergy in Victoria by investing in projects through the #BioenergyFund and our advocacy work to build the community of practice for the #circularbioeconomy. https://lnkd.in/g6VbtFgA We are working with the Victorian Bioenergy Network to demonstrate what is possible and make it easy for others to take part. "...my farm actively participates in the methane reduction program enlisted by the California Air Resources Board, through the production of renewable natural gas used to fuel trucks on California’s roads. For our family farm, sustainability means doing more with less. Our dairy is the host of a hub-and-spoke model of methane digesters in Merced County, and all the dairies that send their gas to this hub are family farms. My wife, children and I are laser-focused on efficient operations, producing milk with less impact to our climate. Investing our own funds, we’ve embraced clean technologies, from solar energy to state-assisted replacement of diesel engines, and a self-financed methane digester that provides non-fossil fuels for large vehicles. We do not look to the state to buy our offsets. Instead, all the renewable gas from our operations is sold to private fleets incentivized to lower their carbon footprints within the state through programs like the LCFS." 😱 The revision of the EU's #UrbanWastewaterTreatmentDirective is underway after 20 years! The directive aims to establish a deadline for these plants to achieve #energyneutrality through #renewableenergy production, including #wasteheat. 🤩 Urban wastewater treatment plants are largely untapped sources of waste heat! 😮 ♻ Closing the loop and integrating the #excessheat produced into the energy audits of treatment plants would not only help #decarbonise the sector, but also provide more #renewable heat to European homes through #districtheating and #cooling networks. Great read from Simon Vander Woude, a 3rd-generation dairy farmer in Merced, where he owns and operates Vander Woude Dairies with his wife and six kids. For Simon, “sustainability” means doing more with less and doing the right thing and to lower emissions for each pound of milk or beef produced. Investing their own funds, he and his wife have adopted a suite of clean technologies, from #solar energy, to state-assisted replacement of his farms' diesel engines. Moreover, they self-financed a digester to capture #methane waste and provide cleaner fuels for other large, hard-to-electrify vehicles. Now, all the #renewable gas from his dairy operation is sold to private fleets, who are incentivized to lower their #GHG emissions within the state by California Air Resources Board's most successful #ClimateAction program— #LowCarbonFuelStandard, which has already exceeded its carbon intensity (CI) target by four years! h/t Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas and CalMatters
