“We shifted our attention to raw materials and developed an understanding that the greatest impact we could have on climate change was really thinking about the sourcing of cotton and the soil.” – Citizens of Humanity Group CEO, Amy ( Hennisch ) Williams. Today marks the debut of the first product from our Regenerative Cotton Program. Over the past two years, we have worked directly with farmers both in the US and abroad, alongside our dedicated partners at Advancing Eco Agriculture, to champion regenerative agriculture. This journey has been about more than just cotton; it’s about nurturing the land, empowering farmers, and creating a sustainable future for fashion. https://lnkd.in/g4uwCCZX

Citizens of Humanity Group and Amy ( Hennisch ) Williams is “walking the walk” leading the way for other retailers to learn from their investment. One of the most notable investments is providing a premium price for cotton from farmers who are committed to regenerative practices. In partnership with Advancing Eco Agriculture they are rolling out new standards to set the bar for regenerative cotton. At all of the many cotton industry meetings I have been attending lately, sustainability is one of the number one topics around cotton production today. If you aren’t signing up for programs like the US Cotton Trust Protocol or Climate Smart Commodoties, or a regenerative certification, you are going to get left behind in the market. I’m so encouraged by all of the buzz that I hear around the industry. Now it’s time to do the work in the fields. Get those cover crops planted, report your data, make a sustainability plan. If you need some guidance, feel free to reach out!! There are so many resources out there!! #regenerativeagriculture #itsthewayofthefuture #cotton #regeneration #farmtocloset #letsdothis

I have had the great privilege to be a part of great brands, and teams in the apparel industry for more than 30 years. Our work with regenerative cotton has been the most meaningful, rewarding, and likely the most lasting and impactful. The impact of a change to regenerative agriculture from conventionally grown OR organic cotton is profound. From Soil Health to carbon sequestration, the nutritional value of our food, farmers' physical and mental health and the economic impact of farming communities in the US and worldwide. This is a solution that with the INTEREST and SUPPORT of suppliers and brands, can change our future. The US is the 3rd largest exporter of Cotton and is looked to for high-quality raw materials for brands that produce products around the world. The simple question I would ask is, why NOT move to regenerative cotton and be a part of a long-term solution? Within the Food industry, General Mills and others have made a large-scale commitment. I invite the Apparel industry and leadership to do the same. https://lnkd.in/ggHZHKBE

🌱The food industry has the power to help restore nature – and it must make this a priority. ✍️Mark Varney outlines in The Grocer how nature-positive solutions, like regenerative approaches, can strike the right balance between producing food and safeguarding nature: https://lnkd.in/e_RD5mxx 🌾Regen10 is already building a shared understanding of how regenerative approaches can deliver positive outcomes for people, nature and climate. 👉 As part of this, we have launched our Zero Draft Outcomes-Based Framework, which follows an analysis of more than 150 existing frameworks and has been developed through engagement with a wide range of key stakeholders. Our current linear food system has had its day. It’s the primary driver of biodiversity loss, accounting for a third of greenhouse gas emissions. And whilst 10% of the planet’s population goes hungry, we waste almost one-third of the food we produce. But sourcing the same ingredients regeneratively is not enough. By applying the principles of circular design to food, we can redesign the whole system for nature, people, and businesses to thrive. Join the pioneers applying Circular Design for Food and leading the transition in our Big Food Redesign Challenge here: https://lnkd.in/e7kTGXkq

To scale circularity wil require product teams, engineering and supply chain to evaluate every bill of material line item versus cherry picking the the visible. Are your sourcing teams ready? Are your product development collaborative process mature? Can you measure impact?

Small environmentally conscious food choices have been making a big impact on our South San Francisco campus. By adjusting the default ordering to a plant-based alternative in our employee cafeterias, data from a pilot study revealed that meat consumption per transaction decreased by nearly 20%. This initiative is just one of many efforts underway to help us lower our environmental footprint by 50% by 2025: http://spr.ly/6046b5pp4
