Absolutely right! Adolescents under our #Unmukt project are also feeling the heat—literally! The intense heatwave is hitting hard, impacting the future and livelihoods of children in rural villages. Overheated classrooms, constant electricity struggles, and water shortages are putting their education and well-being at risk. This situation is a stark reminder of the urgent need for #climate action. It’s high time we act and do everything we can to protect these children and ensure they have the chance to thrive.

Just a few days ago, we wrapped up an inspiring virtual discussion with 5 CORE members of the UPCEG network to brainstorm plans for 2024-25! UPCEG, a coalition of community-based organizations, collectively learns, shares, collaborates, and advocates for girls’ rights in Uttar Pradesh to accelerate progress in improving gender indicators in the state. UPCEG works closely with 30 civil society organizations across 28 districts to address systemic and normative inequalities impacting adolescent girls in marginalized communities. Our passionate team dived into crucial Advocacy asks focusing on health & nutrition, skill building, and protecting adolescent girls. Together, we revisited roles, responsibilities, and even got valuable input on our upcoming State Level Workshop agenda. we're proud to amplify this message of breaking stereotypes through our Unmukt program. In rural communities, we’re making waves by conducting mixed-gender sports activities where girls shine and challenge traditional gender norms. It’s amazing to see the excitement and confidence as they excel on the field, proving that strength and skill know no gender! But that’s not all! Our sessions for adolescent boys are equally transformative. By educating them about menstruation and the importance of sharing household chores, we’re fostering a new generation of empathetic and supportive young men. These activities are fun but also they’re a movement for equality and respect. We’re building a future where everyone can be themselves and break free from old-school stereotypes.

We at Milaan love what we do, so it’s always a joy to get to share our work with others! Here, Associate Director of Programs Javed Abbas leads a session about #Milaan and its work on the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals for a group of American students at the American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) studying Urdu via the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. In this session, Javed discussed the manifold challenges (and the even sweeter rewards) of working with adolescent girls, the importance of building an ecosystem in which girls can thrive through community and family engagement, and the crucial need for cross-sectoral collaboration.
