We are an award winning multidisciplinary practice of architects and urban designers with studios in London and Dublin.

About us

Founded in 2005, we are a multidisciplinary practice of architects and urban designers. We collaborate across two studios in Dublin and London, and strive to become one of the most trusted, original and responsible voices for architecture and urbanism. Stimulating to work for and engaging to work with. We have a studio culture that is open minded; we listen to better understand, we share our knowledge collegially, we cherish and value genuine collaboration. The work we do is underpinned by a rigorous approach and coherent dialogue, to create something that is thoughtful, creative, engaging and particular. Our design comes from a close engagement with the client and the brief, through a process that harnesses the full spectrum of society’s talent. We collaborate with a wide variety of different people from artists and carpenters to researchers and writers. From local authorities, planners, community engagement consultants, and housing developers to, most importantly, the end-users.

Great way to finish the year, to be honest. From the home team, enormous credit to Mabel Ogundayo and Michael Clark for leading from the front with such energy and enthusiasm. All of the facilitation was excellent - Neighbourly Lab are a secret weapon for the parts of our industry who value genuine engagement and collaboration. That won't stay the case for long, I'm sure - if you work in the regeneration space and care for the above then you should get in touch with them sooner rather than later. A huge shout out also to Metropolitan Workshop LLP for their graphic and visual contributions on this and the broader 980 Great West Road narrative - hopefully we can share some of this work, including some fascinating summaries from the above sessions ahead of Xmas too. Sorry if this sounds self-congratulatory - it's just great to be a part of such good work. Well done team x #codesign #socialvalue #impact #regeneration #london #housing

We have been working closely with the Hounslow community this past year. As part of this engagement, we recently undertook a six-session co-design programme on the future of 980 Great West Road in Brentford (formerly GSK House). Facilitated and delivered in partnership with Neighbourly Lab, Metropolitan Workshop LLP, Haworth Tompkins and McGregor Coxall, we invited a broad and diverse group of people from the local area to lend their lived experience and knowledge to inform and influence the evolution of our proposals. The co-design sessions covered six key themes: - Accessibility and Navigation - Green, Blue, and Play Spaces - Entertainment and Leisure facilities - Women and Girls Safe Spaces - Practical Facilities - Youth Facilities At our Youth Facilities session in November, our Design Director, Michael Clark, reflected on the central role co-design plays in the planning process and evolving designs that speak to the needs and aspirations of residents. Since these sessions, we presented our early plans at our public consultation events earlier this month, gathering further feedback from the community. Next year, we will come back with updates on how we have integrated co-design outcomes into our designs, alongside a further round of consultation to present our advanced designs. We look forward to continuing conversations with the community and the collaborative planning journey with the London Borough of Hounslow. Thank you to all those who have been involved so far!

We are delighted to announce the opening of the second iteration of Rún - Ireland’s (In)visible Buildings Project on Friday November 15th in Building 71, Belfield from 5.00pm. The exhibition will be opened by Patricia Carey, Government Special Advocate for Victims of Institutional Abuse and UCD President Professor Orla Feely. The exhibition maps and catalogues vacant institutional buildings across the island of Ireland. A representative sample of these buildings is studied in more detail to reveal firstly the need for their traumatic histories to be acknowledged and recognised, and secondly the potential for these major buildings to take on a new lease of life and contribute to the well-being and renewal of their towns. The research to date has been focussed on processes of recording, surveying and creating an accessible database, as well as offering guidelines and principles for sensitive redevelopment. We have developed a version of the database alongside software engineer Ian Thompson, and are excited to share this in-progress work. The exhibition and dissemination of this work is also a vital part of the process. We would like to use this exhibition as a prompt and an opportunity to think about next steps - next steps in terms of research, in terms of advocacy and in terms of honouring the legacy of these troubling, (in)visible buildings and realising their potential. As always, a huge thank you to Professor Katherine O’Donnell (@kmodonnell43) and Professor Hugh Campbell (@hugh_campbellucd) for their continued mentorship and guidance, and we are also very grateful to our sponsors, who’s financial support allows the project to keep going. See link in bio for more information. Photos 2+3 by @ste_murray from the first iteration of the exhibition during @openhousedublin in 2023 We will be sharing more information over the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

The House for Students at University of Limerick is nearly ready to welcome its new residents. Was very lucky to be able to join this tour by Louise Cotter and Architectural Association of Ireland yesterday. As is to be expected from Cotter & Naessens the building is very well considered and fits in amongst its eclectic neighbours negotiating between the many different styles and eras of buildings surrounding it. Internally the spaces range from the grand to the domestic meaning all the varied activities of UL Student Life will find a home , as David said during the tour there are spaces for everyone from the extrovert to the shy introvert.

🏘️ We recently facilitated workshops for Hadley Property Group's 980 Great West Road redevelopment in Brentford, in partnership with Metropolitan Workshop LLP, Haworth Tompkins & McGregor Coxall. 📋 4 out of 6 sessions have taken place so far. Each session entailed co-producing ideas and opportunities for the future plans with local residents, exploring key themes such as; 'Accessibility & Navigation' and 'Green, Blue (Canal/River) & Play Spaces'. Upcoming sessions will see us focus on practical facilities in the area and spaces for young people. 🤝 We are loving the creativity and ideas coming from the community and are excited to share the learnings as this work progresses. A huge thanks to everyone who has shared their insights so far - we look forward to sharing more updates on this exciting project soon! #CoDesign #CommunityEngagement #Workshop #Housing #ResidentEngagement

Well this is nice. We recently welcomed residents from across Hounslow to help us kick off our newest co-design programme on the Great West Road in Brentford. Facilitated by ourselves and a team made up of Neighbourly Lab, Metropolitan Workshop, Haworth Tompkins and McGregor Coxall, we spent two evenings discussing Accessibility & Navigation and Green, Blue & Play Spaces for the forthcoming redevelopment of the now defunct office HQ. Neighbourly Lab and Metropolitan Workshop have been working closely with Hadley's Comms and Design teams the last few months to curate a six-step co-design process to inform our masterplan. We've engaged a broad and diverse group of people from the local area, asking them to lend their lived experience and expertise to inform our proposals. The group will play a fundamental role in the development process, with sessions hosted specifically for women's and girls' safety and young people - groups commonly "designed out" of public spaces. The co-design sessions will cover these six key themes: · Accessibility and Navigation · Green, Blue, and Play Spaces · Entertainment and Leisure facilities · Women and Girls Safe Spaces · Practical Facilities · Youth Facilities Across the sessions, we will continue to work collaboratively with local people from all walks of life, ensuring our designs are rooted in longevity to benefit the community now and well into the future. We look forward to welcoming more residents to our upcoming sessions and reporting back on progress and influence in the coming months.

It was a real pleasure to share our work with all the people who attended this evening. As we turned the lights out at 8pm I had a final look around and reflected on what a great opportunity the Open Studios event gave us to take a moment and take a step back from the day to day routine to appreciate the amazing clients and projects we are all working on. So thank you Irish Architecture Foundation and all our visitors this evening. #OpenHouse24
