We've been busy working with the Breedon Group plc in developing mixer familiarisation training as part of our Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) accredited MixerSURE© program. As part of the development, we've also incorporated the training into the EMPI Awards SVCA© (On-Road) (Mixers) vocational qualification, bringing the world's first VQ for eMixers, regulated by SQA – Scottish Qualifications Authority. Working with the Putzmeister United Kingdom and SANY Group operational manuals, these bespoke products confirm Breedon's commitment to decarbonisation and safety. A continuing issue with waste in the Ready-Mix industry is often caused by the incorrect use of truck mixer wash admixture, specifically SikaTard Pak powered admixture. Sika provide a product data sheet, which includes application information for truck washout (stabilisation) and the requirement for adding coarse aggregate (2000kg). Further application information relates to the batching of the next load, requiring the next batch to contain a minimum of 300kg of CEM 1 cement per load. Further instructions are to ensure that batch weights are adjusted to account for the materials in the mixer (e.g. aggregates and water). The information provided for the application is based on Sika's knowledge and experience with their product when applied correctly and used as per the product data sheet. Removing the addition of coarse aggregates causes concrete build-up in the mixer drum. It only solves the plant's waste issue, which can add weight to the truck mixer and affect carrying capacity.  Ready-Mix suppliers who use independent hauliers create further issues by leaving the haulier to remove the build-up (at their own cost) and often without implementing the correct safety procedures regarding removal. Managing concrete build-up and dealing with waste will continue when the correct application and use of stabilisation washout are disregarded. We are excited to announce the latest addition to our Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) accredited MixerSURE© training with the Mixer Rollover Investigation Course launch. With approximately 28 mixer rollovers each year in the UK, this half-day accredited course covers immediate, underlying and root causes. A good investigation should identify the rollover incident's immediate, underlying and root causes, learn from them and implement controls to address them. The course equips attendees with practical knowledge on effectively handling and structuring a mixer rollover investigation, the role of the manufacturer's operating instructions, designated standards, and statutory guidance, and how to handle such situations confidently and contribute to safer practices in the Ready-Mix Concrete industry. We are also pleased to offer funded courses to enforcement, regulatory, and government bodies. The course is also FREE to DVSA Earned Recognition accredited operators who have achieved the Concrete Operational Standards module.
