This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we are proud to share our progress in conserving natural resources and promoting sustainable community practices. Our collaborative water conservation and waste management efforts foster a healthier, more resilient environment for future generations. The watershed and environmental conservation projects at Kolar, Hyderabad and Salem implemented by the S M Sehgal Foundation and Bala Vikasa Social Service Society, have significantly improved water storage, boosted agricultural productivity through silt distribution, regenerative horticulture while helping reduce overall water consumption through drip irrigation systems. Additionally, our project teams have educated farmers on scientific irrigation practices to ensure sustainable water usage. Under the waste management project, two 1250-litre capacity composters were installed to transform organic waste into valuable compost and encourage household waste segregation. To further proliferate awareness on waste management, a vibrant mural has been painted on the Bangalore walls with the community's support, urging people to reduce, reuse, and recycle for a cleaner city. These initiatives exemplify First American (India)’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and inspire our community to embrace eco-friendly practices. Together, we are building a greener, more sustainable future. Water, the essence of life on earth, surrounds us in abundance, yet its scarcity remains a contradiction — this life force is everywhere and not enough all at once. With the global water scarcity on the rise, taking conscious and continuous efforts towards a water-resilient world is more crucial than ever. At #Bosch India, we are choosing to observe #WorldWaterDay by taking a pause to reflect on responsible water conservation, both within and outside of our organization. Committed to reducing our dependency on freshwater consumption by 25% by 2025, Bosch in India has embarked on rainwater harvesting initiatives across facilities including — a 9-million-litre tank at the Spark.NXT Campus in Bengaluru, a 10-million-litre tank at the manufacturing plant at Bidadi, a 1200KL tank at the manufacturing plant at Jaipur — which stand as testaments to our vision for achieving water neutrality. Additionally, we also spearhead numerous water conservation projects for the benefit of local communities. Water is a resource shared by all without any boundaries, and the responsibility for conserving this finite resource rests on everyone. Your small actions can lead to significant change: - Reuse water wherever possible - Don’t leave the tap running beyond your need - Fix leaky taps and install water efficient fixtures - Create awareness for those around you on the importance of using water cautiously Together, let us embrace the responsibility to conserve water and safeguard it for future generations. #BoschCares #WaterConservation #Sustainability #SustainableFuture #EveryDropCounts #SaveWater #WorldWaterDay2024

Such good ideas are always a fresh change
Have you ever wondered how a simple idea can transform waste into a valuable resource? Meet Pavani, a visionary student from Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology in Hyderabad, who turned curiosity into action. Inspired by her experiences in the college’s Eco Club, Pavani embarked on a mission to tackle India’s waste crisis. Witnessing the neglect towards waste segregation during a village outreach, she envisioned a solution: a user-friendly composter to convert organic waste into compost. Thus, in 2020, ‘Future Steps’ was born, co-founded by Pavani and her peers, Mahesh U and Siddhesh Sakore. Their home composting kit, priced affordably at Rs 3,500, swiftly gained traction across Telangana, Maharashtra, New Delhi, and Karnataka. The kit, complete with a special green mix powder, efficiently transforms kitchen waste into compost within just seven days, without the need for artificial heating. Pavani’s innovation not only addresses India’s mounting waste problem but also empowers individuals to actively participate in environmental sustainability. Despite facing scepticism, Pavani remains resolute in her commitment to creating a greener future, one compost kit at a time. "Bengaluru slips to the #125th spot in the Swaccha Survekshan Program 2023", according to the blunt headlines from TheNewIndiaTimes TNIT. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time our city has found itself scraping the #bottom in terms of cleanliness and waste management. #Indore, on the flip side, continues to claim the top position for cleanliness and waste management. How do they do it? Well, as per TheHindu Times, Indore charges a modest fee from each household to recycle segregated waste. Moreover, every month, the #citizens of Indore roll up their sleeves and hit the streets to clean up the mess we create as a community. The secret sauce lies in the #collective action embraced by both officials and citizens in Indore. Their joint efforts have proven instrumental in keeping dumpsites at bay, resulting in fewer instances of #garbage burning and subsequently, an improvement in the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) and Health standards. Now, let's talk about Bengaluru. Despite implementing segregated waste collection system, the city has fumbled in instilling a sense of #responsibility among its citizens. The lack of a united front has left the dumping and burning issues unchecked. Here's where I come in, rallying for a collective action to turn the tide in our city. I'm reaching out to #fellow community members, #citizens, and #officials, urging everyone to join forces. Together, we can transform Bengaluru into a haven with no pungent spots, no buzzing flies invading our homes, and no lakes choked with waste. Currently, we are a team of 35 citizens/volunteers taking action but with million of population we need more hands to join the initiative. If you're on #board, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gACKxNgQ, or drop me a line at chiku@jhatkaa.org with the subject line "NoGarbageSpots." Let's make our city cleaner, greener, and more livable. Dear Bengalurean - Bengaluru is grappling with a severe water crisis. Here’s what we are doing wrongly: This crisis is exacerbated by misguided attempts at conservation. One such approach is the widespread usage of single-use cups, which, despite its seeming convenience, has unintended consequences. Water is used extensively in the production of each disposable cup, from the extraction of basic materials to the manufacturing and cleaning procedures. In spite of this, they are now frequently seen as part of Bangalore's water conservation initiatives. This method exposes a basic misconception about water saving. Bengaluru uses band-aid solutions that make the issue worse rather than tackling the underlying causes, such as urbanization and ineffective infrastructure. Furthermore, the use of throwaway cups devalues water by pointing to a disposable culture. I think that systemic reform and sustainable alternatives need to be Bengaluru's top priorities to really address the situation. Only then can the city hope to secure a sustainable water future. Do you agree with my perspective? Let me know in the comments below. #iluvbengaluru
