The transformation of Leroy House is now complete, delivering an additional 1,888 sqm of flexible office, workshop and studio space for Workspace Group. The revitalised building also features a new ground floor café and expanded public realm, enhancing its connection to the surrounding community. Our design draws inspiration from the architectural language of the Grade II listed St Paul’s opposite and the character of the Canonbury Conservation Area. The building’s form responds thoughtfully to its residential context, with carefully articulated massing and a façade of light, warm brick that echoes the tones of St Paul’s white Gault brick. The new café and improved public realm have transformed what was once a car park into a welcoming, active frontage along Essex Road, further embedding Leroy House within its neighbourhood. We’re proud to see this project now complete, providing adaptable spaces that cater to a variety of tenants, especially small businesses, while enriching the local streetscape. A stunning perspective from One Millennium Bridge, capturing its unique setting between the River Thames and St Paul’s. This project is a careful response to its historical and architectural context, balancing dockside heritage, English Baroque influences, and the constraints of the St. Paul’s Heights Grid. Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with 70% of the existing structural frame retained to significantly reduce embodied carbon. The scheme also delivers a publicly accessible rooftop terrace, offering panoramic views across the city. Excited to see this workspace come to life! We’re thrilled that our Boston Consulting Group (BCG) London project has been shortlisted for the British Council for Offices London Regional Awards, a great moment to reflect on what made this workplace special. BCG operates at the forefront of solving complex societal and business challenges, and their London HQ was designed to reflect this forward-thinking ethos. Our goal was to create a space that provides a strong sense of place while remaining adaptable to future change. At the heart of the design was one key question: Where do people do their best work? Through this inquiry, we identified four core themes: Variety, Comfort, Flexibility & Community - all essential to creating a space that truly supports BCG’s innovative working practices. The success of the project is reflected in the 2022 Leesman workplace survey, where the London HQ rated higher than any other UK workplace that year, achieving an overall score of 79.3. The results speak to the impact of the space: 89.7% of employees felt it contributed to a strong sense of community, 93.5% agreed it was an enjoyable place to work, and 92.2% said it was a workplace they were proud to bring visitors to. Designed with a long-term view, the 160,000 sq ft workspace is not only adaptable but also sustainable, achieving BREEAM Excellent and LEED Gold certification. We’re proud of this recognition and grateful to our collaborators who helped bring this vision to life. Xylo London is set to be the largest all-timber-framed, net-zero carbon office building in the UK, offering 97,000 sq ft of light-filled, healthy workspace in the heart of Clerkenwell. With nine floors, including five outdoor terraces, it is designed to foster well-being and productivity while setting a new benchmark for sustainable workplace design. To bring this vision to life, we developed a meticulously crafted architectural model, exploring potential layouts and interior fit-outs to ensure both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The model’s two fronts open like a doll’s house, revealing hundreds of intricately designed interior elements. Additionally, the middle four floors are interchangeable, demonstrating the flexibility of CLT construction and allowing for tailored configurations to meet tenant needs. We recently visited the Simplicity Specialist Finishes workshop in Kent to explore the manufacturing process and finalise the finishes for the glass-reinforced concrete panels that will clad the façade of our Great Sutton Street project. During our visit, the team also investigated innovative techniques for crafting elegant cornicing that seamlessly integrates ventilation, ensuring both aesthetic refinement and functionality. Introducing Xylo - the UK’s largest full-timber-frame office building - the healthiest and most sustainable place to work in London. As climate change accelerates, the urgency to rethink how we design and build our workplaces has never been greater. Timber offers a powerful solution - as a carbon negative material, it absorbs and stores CO₂ throughout its life cycle, making it an essential tool in our fight against climate change. Timber buildings are strong, safe, endlessly renewable, operationally less expensive, and easy to adapt over time. Timber interiors also provide the healthiest and most productive workspaces, reducing stress and blood pressure, whilst increasing creativity, mood and focus. Timber is more than a material. It is a cornerstone for a thriving future in which the built environment can support, not compromise, the health of people and the planet. Find out about Xylo and the incredible benefits of timber buildings at www.xylo.london Xylo comprises: - 97,000 sq ft (nine floors) of bright, light-filled workspaces - Five south-facing landscaped terraces (7,400 sq ft) - Rooftop garden and yoga deck - Exposed timber interiors with high performance façade - 6.5m high vaulted timber lobby - Multi-use town hall / social hub (3,640 sq ft) - Cafe / restaurant - Fully equipped active commuting hub - Minutes from Farringdon Station, Chancery Lane and King’s Cross. What inspires great design? For #NetworkW1, it’s the nuanced interplay of movement, interaction, and history. Piercy&Company carefully explored how people navigate and connect within the space, shaping a structure that feels balanced and human-centric. Drawing inspiration from celebrated figures in art and design, they crafted soft shapes and sculptural curves to create a welcoming, harmonious experience. In our latest film, Finding Form, we delve into the creative journey behind #NetworkW1’s design. Thank you to Stuart Piercy, Harry Bucknall and Marine Zub from Piercy&Company.

1 Triton Square sets a new design agenda for the Life Sciences, both in London and globally. Situated in the Knowledge Quarter, the building - originally designed and recently reworked by Arup - will provide a hub for the burgeoning life sciences community in London. Along with our visionary client, we developed a design approach that redefines what life science interiors could look like, focusing on the strengths of a sector that thrives on the pursuit of ideas, rigorous research and experiment and, importantly, cross-pollination. Housing this within a humanising, warm and inspiring environment has been an exciting design journey for our team. It has been a pleasure to be part of this ambitious project working with British Land and Royal London Asset Management as well as Arup and Overbury. We are very much looking forward to celebrating the project completing in 2025. #labsinthecity #designforlifesciences #knowledgequarter #Londonarchitecture

Flemish architect Jan de Vylder from Ghent-based practice AJDVIV offered a fascinating insight into 'revealing' as an architectural approach this week as part of the Architecture On Stage series at the Barbican Centre by The Architecture Foundation. The presentation - unfortunately missing the practice's co-founder Inge Vinck on this occasion - invited the audience to consider processes of reuse as integral to any and all projects. Jan proposed radical forms of inhabitation that position scarcity of means as an opportunity, rather than a hindrance. While this approach advocates for a reduction in building, AJDVIV showed the power and the value in focusing on the production of space. The overarching message that a lot can be done with very little was uplifting, and resonated with much of our own work in the studio where deep retrofit, refurbishment and adaptive reuse are a part of our DNA. It got us thinking about some of our projects that sing from the same songbook, among them in-progress One Millennium Bridge and The Bindery (more details on our website, see link in bio). #ArchitectureOnStage #AdaptiveReuse #InspiringDesign
