Clean Aviation Partnership Updated its Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA) - Sept 2024, for European Union funding The updated version of the SRIA offers the vision for the 2nd Phase of the Clean Aviation programme, focusing on four proposed aircraft concepts for integration and demonstration. These candidate aircraft concepts are addressing SMR and Regional segments. They offer the best potential to decrease net-GHG down to an average of 86%, thanks to an improved efficiency of no less than 30% from aircraft technological innovations at aircraft level and the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (#SAF) and Hydrogen (#H2). The #SRIA outlines the approach to ensure that the technological industrial readiness of innovations achieved at completion (up to TRL 6 by 2030) can support the launch of disruptive new products and services for an entry into service by 2035. The #HPA demonstration plan (Figure 6.5): and auxiliary functions related to the Clean Aviation efforts. Here’s an overview of each: 🔹 Aircraft Level: The plan includes potential flight demonstrations for large-scale aircraft, such as the H2C (100-150 pax), FC (100 pax), and hybrid regional aircraft. 🔹 System Level: - A 5 MW class for direct hydrogen combustion and end-to-end propulsion systems (H2C). - A 2.5 MW class for fuel cell propulsion and end-to-end power train (FCPS). - A 1 MW class for battery alternatives (#HyFC) with non-propulsive fuel cells. The route to certification, industrialization, MRO, and standards is also highlighted, reinforced with various demonstrations (techno bricks, sub-system ground, and integrated ground demos). Ability to Enable Auxiliary Functions: 🔹 Emphasizes utilising the intrinsic properties of high pressure and/or cryogenic temperatures to enable additional functions. 🔹 Applications include cooling means for powertrain components and using pressure for various devices. 🔹 Activities will focus on demonstrating the feasibility and performance of cryogenic propulsion and electric distribution systems. 🔹 #Superconducting technologies, although not directly addressed by Clean Aviation, are recommended to be studied in synergy with the program to potentially add value at the system level. Need for enablers like Inspection and MRO maintenance for safety and economics is also noted. <Source: https://lnkd.in/ejsmHtwX> #SustainableAviation #Technologies #AerospaceTechnology #Sustainable #Aviation #Roadmap #Funding #EU #CleanAviation
