Mobile World Congress 2018 Complete Wrap Up: All You Need To Know

Mobile World Congress 2018 may have some time left to go before it officially ends, but all the big announcements have been made, and a good few of them were likely to spark plenty of interest in the smartphone market, as well as other industries like smart home, IoT, speakers, 5G, and more. That said, some announcements definitely stood out more than others for a majority of people and leading that category is none other than Samsung with its official unveiling of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, the two latest smartphones from the brand and what may be two of the most popular smartphones of the year.

Samsung’s latest flagships kept much of the same design from last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, but with a few differences, such as the dual rear cameras on the Galaxy S9 Plus and the new placement of the rear-facing fingerprint sensor on both new phones. Samsung also used a variable aperture on the main cameras for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. Of course, Samsung wasn’t the only company to announce new phones at the event. Sony officially unveiled its latest flagships as well, the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. These feature a mostly all-new design from the previous models which is a nice change of pace for Sony, but the more exciting factor might be that the fingerprint sensor will be rolling out to all markets where the phones will be sold this time around, something which is a first for Sony since it started integrating these sensors in the first place. It’ll also be the first official time that the U.S. market is getting a Sony phone that has a fingerprint sensor included.

If Sony isn’t your manufacturer of choice due to the high cost of its phones on past devices, ASUS may just have what you’re looking for in a new phone with its upcoming ZenFone 5 series, which were announced on February 27. This series includes the ZenFone 5, ZenFone 5Q, and ZenFone 5Z, all of which come with screens slightly larger than 6-inches, intelligent camera features, and the ZenFone 5Z even has the notch up top to make the most of the available screen real estate. There were plenty of other products announced and shown off too, like HTC’s Vive Pro, Vive Focus, and Vive Wireless adapter, all of which were officially unveiled at CES 2018, as well as new Chromebooks from Lenovo and new phones from a handful of other vendors.
