Shanghai Disneyland Update : First Aerial Pictures of Toy Story Land Construction Site

Thanks to Chinese media news.cn we have the first aerial pictures showing the construction of Toy Story Land at Shanghaî Disneyland. First, as we know, the land is located between the TRON Lightcycles show building and the Evergreen Playhouse where is currently playing the Frozen show. See picture below before TSL construction began.

As for the attractions that SDL guests will find in this mini land, Toy Story Land will include Slinky Dog Spin - identical to the one at DLP WDS and HKDL Toy Story Lands, Woody's Round-Up which seems to be the same kind of ride like the Mater's Junkyard Jamboree at Disney's California Adventure, and Rex' Racer who could be like WDS TSL RC Racer. In addition, the land will include the Toy Box Cafe restaurant, in fact already open since SDL opening last June.

Now, let's have a look to these aerial pictures showing SDL Toy Story Land construction from above. On the first picture below the park entrance is in the background, SDL Fantasyland in the foreground, and the future Toy Story land on the bottom right.

The second picture is a closer view and Toy Story Land is, again, on the bottom right. The green building are rest rooms, on the left of it with the orange umbrellas you have the Toy Box Cafe (both are already open ) and below the green building you have on the left Slinky Dog Spin, in front of it Rex's Racer and, under Slinky Dog Spin, Woody's Roundup.

Still plenty of work to do as you can see but if all goes well the land will open at Shanghaî Disneyland next year, in 2018, as announced during the break ground event by Bob Iger and Bob Chapek last November! ( picture on top )

Shanghai Disneyland Celebrates the Year of the Rooster with Traditional Chinese Ceremony

Shanghai Disney Resort today celebrated the first day of the Year of the Rooster with two traditional Chinese lions bringing fortune and prosperity to guests in front of the Storyteller Statue. Joined by Mickey and Minnie, and Goofy dressed as the traditional God of Fortune, Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort - and former Disneyland Paris President - dotted the eyes of the lions, awakening them to spread good cheer and luck to resort guests and cast members.

“We are very delighted to join our guests to celebrate a promising start to the Chinese New Year,” Philippe said. “Shanghai Disney Resort has created a special line-up of festive activities for our first Chinese New Year celebration, ensuring guests from across China and around the world enjoy a unique experience at the resort. We wish everyone a prosperous and healthy Year of the Rooster.”

Shanghai Disney Resort has provided a series of additional New Year activities, including Dragon Dance performances in the Gardens of Imagination every day during the celebration period. Mickey leads the dragon with a “pearl” and welcomes the guests to join him and his pals in the dance. The longer the dragon, the more luck it brings to the guests.

Guests gather along the longest parade route in a Disney park to enjoy Mickey’s Storybook Express, an exciting parade with its own musical soundtrack and colorful performers.

In the Chinese zodiac-inspired Garden of the Twelve Friends, the Year of the Rooster is represented by an Allan-A-Dale mosaic, which is beautifully adorned in sleek, new red couplets for another fun photo opportunity.

Classic Disney characters are dressed in brand-new, beautiful Chinese traditional attire on Mickey Avenue, sharing hugs and taking photos with guests.

The gleaming new Golden Rooster icon in the Gardens of Imagination has been designed to welcome guests and conjure happy and prosperous thoughts.

During the Chinese New Year celebration, every night after the Nighttime Spectacular show, guests will enjoy a special wishes projection event, where they will be able to send their best New Year wishes in the most special of ways. To the tune of a charming symphony composition by famous Chinese musician Tan Dun, a series of inspirational wishes and quotes are projected onto Mickey-shaped lanterns on the towering Enchanted Storybook Castle.

The special Chinese New Year celebration runs until February 12, 2017, amidst a spectacular series of entertainment programs, festive decorations, seasonal food and beverage offerings, lucky bags and holiday-themed shopping experiences.

Resort management also reminds guests that during the Chinese New Year high-visitation period, guests are highly recommended to check the resort’s official website or mobile app before traveling to the resort for the most up-to-date information on theme park ticket availability. To preserve the guest experience, ticket sales may be limited or suspended on high attendance days. Other experiences inside the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, including Disneytown, will be open for guests to enjoy throughout the holiday period.

Important note from Shanghaî Disneyland:  entered the Chinese New Year visitation period. In order to preserve the guest experience at Shanghai Disneyland during the holiday period, guests interested in visiting Shanghai Disneyland on January 29 & 30 must purchase a ticket before coming to the park. Tickets will not be sold on site on these dates. As January 31 & February 1 are also forecast to be high attendance days, we highly recommend guests purchase tickets in advance for these dates, as we reserve the right to suspend ticket sales at the resort on these dates should demand require. Please check our official website and/or app for the most up-to-date information on park ticket availability. Other experiences inside the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, including Disneytown, will be open for guests to enjoy throughout the holiday period.

Shanghai Disneyland Breaks Ground on Toy Story Land - Opening Scheduled For 2018 !

It was awaited to be the next Shanghaî Disneyland attraction and it is now confirmed as SDL breaks ground for Toy Story Land. It will be the 7th themed land of Shanghaî Disneyland and will be locate behind Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Below, full SDL press release:

Shanghai, November 10, 2016 – Woody, Buzz and all of their Toy Story friends will soon be entertaining guests at an all-new land of their own in Mainland China. One of The Walt Disney Company’s most popular franchises will have an even bigger presence at Shanghai Disney Resort’s theme park, Shanghai Disneyland, when the park opens its 7th themed land. Leadership from the joint venture’s two shareholders, The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group, recently broke ground on the new themed land, in a sign of their confidence in the growing consumer demand for themed entertainment in China, and as a clear sign of the early success of Shanghai Disney Resort.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with Shanghai Disneyland’s first four months of operation and couldn’t be more excited about our future in mainland China,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “We’re demonstrating our confidence by breaking ground on a new Toy Story Land that will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese, delighting our guests for years to come.”

Toy Story Land will be a high-spirited, colorful world where guests will enter the backyard of Andy, the boy from the movies, and will feel as if they’ve been shrunk down to the size of their favorite Toy Story toys for laughter and fun. The toys come to life and play in a fully immersive land with three new attractions and a uniquely themed character greeting area.

“Since its opening in June this year, Shanghai Disneyland’s operation has run smoothly and our guests have been very enthusiastic. We have received positive feedback from the entire society – all of which makes us excited about the future,” said Fan Xiping, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group. “The newly announced Toy Story Land is part of the accelerated expansion plan for the first phase of the theme park. Both shareholders will continue to launch more new experiences to meet the needs of our guests from China and all over the world.”

Characters and stories from the Toy Story franchise have strongly resonated with Chinese guests. Shanghai Disney Resort has the only Toy Story-themed resort hotel in the world, and Shanghai Disneyland also has the popular Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue attraction, a guest favorite which features the most advanced Buzz Lightyear targeting system at any Disney Park in the world.

“Walt Disney once said that Disneyland, and by extension, all of our theme parks, would never be complete, that they would continue to grow as long as there is imagination in the world,” said Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “We are so excited to bring this same sense of imagination and optimism to Shanghai and look forward to growing our resort together with our guests in China. This is a great time to visit Shanghai Disney Resort and experience the magic of Disney.”

The new Toy Story Land, with unique attractions and experiences guests can only have at Shanghai Disneyland, is set to open in 2018.

Young Chinese Programmer Embezzled over 1,700 Electronic Tickets to Shanghai Disneyland,

Remember when i told you that when it's about counterfeit "nothing stops the Chinese"? Well, the true story below of a young programmer who embezzled over 1,700 electronic tickets to Shanghai Disneyland is pretty eloquent as you'll see. From CRI English:

A young programmer surnamed Bai has been detained for embezzling over 1,700 electronic tickets to Shanghai Disneyland, people.cn reported on Monday.

Taking the advantage of working in an IT company which provides technological support for Shanghai Disneyland's online ticket-selling system, Bai managed to get access to the system's backstage data including the resort's sold electronic tickets.

Through the loophole, Bai begun to change the dates of the sold tickets, starting from late June, and then resell them to scalpers for profit.

Officials with the resort only realized it may be an internal theft case after many visitors arriving at the resort found their electronic tickets had already been used. These visitors all reportedly bought their electronic tickets on alitrip.com. Through the IP addresses of the computers logging into the website, the police later tracked and arrested Bai at the IT company. A number of scalpers selling the fake electronic tickets were arrested later.

Initial estimates show that Bai illegally acquired over 1,700 electronic tickets to the resort from June 27 to July 20 and earned nearly half a million yuan (around 73,500 USD) after selling them to scalpers. The economic loss for Shanghai Disneyland reached over 870 thousand yuan.

Prosecutors in Shanghai's Pudong New District said they believed that Bai illegally possessed public property and so they approved his arrest.

Shanghai Disneyland has now upgraded its online ticket selling system and promised to cover the cost of those visitors whose electronic tickets were embezzled.

D&M Exclusive : Shanghaî Disneyland Pictorial Report - Part Two

Here is the part two of the Shanghaî Disneyland photo report by Alexis Lefranc. If you've missed the part one you will find it below or HERE.

As you've seen in the first part Alexis was incredibly lucky - and so are we - to have an incredible sunny day with a clear blue sky when he shot the pictures, and i have to say that, after months of pictures of SDL shot early morning and with a grey sky, i'm really happy that the first D&M exclusive report about Shanghaî Disneyland shows pictures with a weather over the park at its best. That said, there we go for the second part of Alexis visit and  i let him now describe his visit and his feelings about Shanghaî Disneyland, and we start with Tomorrowland:

Tomorrowland is the land of the park with which i was a little bit disappointed. With its grey and too sleek design it loses the magic which has our Jules Verne style Discoveryland and her goes to a new cool but somewhat sanitized futurism. The Buzz Lighther attraction is nice, the addition of the Marvel Universe is also a good idea but I stayed on my hunger. The Star Wars area was not open yet, and neither Star Tours , Autopia, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with the Nautilus or Space Mountain exist here, and the land looks a bit empty. But the TRON attraction is absolutely amazing !!! A little too short and probably reduced in speed to appeal to a wider audience, it is still very strong and will score points. It is closer to Space Mountain than Rock'N 'Roller in terms of sensation but the immersion in the TRON universe is just phenomenal. The decorations, lights, sounds, music, lightcycles vehicles for a run through the grid are just crazy and I had never experienced anything like it.

Let's move now to the other side of the park and say a little hello to Shanghaî Disneyland castle when we walk in front of it on our way to Adventure Isle while the parade is passing by.

At Disneyland Paris Adventureland we have an Adventure Isle, and at Shanghaî Disneyland it became a whole land with shops, restaurants and entertainment with the Tarzan show and two major attractions that are not at DLP but that i could not do unfortunately. The first - Soarin over the Horizon - had 2 hours of waiting and the second - Roaring Rapids- remains closed until the park official opening ( Ndr: there is also Camp Discovery that apparently Alexis didn’t do, too ). This land is super pretty, but nevertheless we lose DLP Adventure Isle "Center of the Earth" with the caves, the Disneydendron - the Swiss Robinson Tree, or even the Indiana Jones ride.

A new land appeared: Treasure Cove! It is superb, by far the most successful after Fantasyland and is themed on the theme of the seven seas and pirates. The decors are amazing, there is palm trees, wrecked ships on abandoned beaches, taverns and pirates hideouts with a galleon that can be visited and an explorer canoes ride around an island not to mention of course the fort in which is the Pirates of the Caribeean : Battle for the Sunken Treasure attraction. ThisPOTC attraction is INSANE. So I did it twice. You probably have never seen such a ride. By cons, it has very little to do with the original version that we love, even if we always hear the phrases "Yo ho! "" Dead men tell no tale "and certain sequences are obviously a tribute to the original ride - like this scene with the prisoners in jail always calling the dog holding the keys ... except that they’re now skeletons. It is so impressive...

Below, three great panoramic pictures of Treasure Cove shot by Alexis. Click on each to see them in big size!

We will end this photo report by going back near the castle and through Alice in Wonderland Maze at sunset time. I also saw SDL night show "Ignite the Dream" happening in front and over the Castle at 9pm, and it's magical. There were holographic projections, water fountains, lights show, sound effects, lasers, fireworks… and a fantastic music from Disney classics from the Lion King to Fantasia, Aladdin, Frozen, Mulan, Star Wars and more!

I want to thanks personally again Alexis for kindly providing to Disney and more this great pictorial report on Shanghaî Disneyland, and as i'm sure you'll be happy to join me, don't hesitate to leave a comment below!
