David Copperfield is back at Disney Hollywood Studios, and this time he's teaching you some magic !

Who remember the "David Copperfield Magic Underground" restaurant project that was supposed to open at Disney-MGM Studios in the late 1990's - and never opened. It was announced on a big billboard near the entrance of the park, and then, not only the billboard but the whole project really disappeared!

You might be interested to know what happened, so here is more about this project-that-never-was: David Copperfield's Magic Underground was planned to be a restaurant based on Copperfield's magic. There was a sign on Hollywood Boulevard during the late 90s indicating the restaurant was coming soon. Signs were also located around Pleasure Island and signs outside Disney-MGM Studios. A Magic Underground restaurant was also going to open in New York's Times Square. Plans also included eventual expansion into Disneyland in Anaheim, California, as well as Paris and Tokyo. The restaurants were to have magic props and other items on the walls of the restaurants while magicians would go around to tables doing sleight of hand tricks. There was also to be a larger stage for larger stunts. The restaurant in Times Square was 85 percent completed, but, amid disputes between the creative team and the financial team, and enormous cost overruns, finances dried up from the investors, so the project was cancelled, and Disney cancelled the lease. Copperfield was not an investor in the project; the investors reportedly lost $34 million on the project".

...Well, since then Michael Eisner also have disappeared from the WDC, but it's for other reasons! Probably the only thing that survived from this project is this great and funny picture of Eisner with David released by WDW marketing office when everything was going fine with the project.

But this week, David Copperfield was back at Disney Hollywood Studios, and this time to learn you a very-simple-to-perform magic act as you will see on the video below!

David Copperfield in 1979 : His second TV show at 23

It is sunday, and it is a great time to relax and watch a magic show from one of the best magician alive!

European audience discovered David Copperfield in 1995, but David was well known in North America since a long time. At the end of the 70's , David was young, but had already his tv special, as you will see here with his second tv show "The Magic of David Copperfield" released in 1979.

David , 23 years old at that time was young and romantic ( the photo above is a recent picture ) , but his magic was already stunning. Just like now, it's impossible to see the trick!

The other great thing is that you can feel the "innocence" of that period, something that i hope we have not lost forever.

You can also watch the show on a bigger image if you wish at:

David Copperfield 1978 very first show, with Orson Welles

It's the week-end, and, as usual, here is the magic show that i've found for you.

This time, here is the very first tv special done by David Copperfield in 1978.David was around 22 years old at that time , and , although he was a young magician doing his first show, he had the genius movie director Orson Welles himself to introduce him to the audience. In his introduction, Orson say "...although young, you will see him - David - for a long time" , and when we think to David's career, the least we can say is that he was right!

As you may know , Orson was not only an acclaimed movie director, but also was performing magic tours, as you will see at the end of this show. Orson's tour is perfectly done, but it's the way he's doing it that is pure "Orson Welles".

David Copperfield in 1980 : the "Goldfinger" tribute magic tour

European audience discovered David Copperfield in 1995, but David was well known in North America since a long time. At the end of the 70's , David was young, but had already his tv special, as you will see with this show "The Magic of David Copperfield" released in 1980.
David , 24 years old at that time was young and romantic, but his magic was already stunning. Just like now, it's impossible to see the trick!
The not-to-be-missed tour is this tribute to James Bond's "Goldfinger" , at 12 minutes from the beginning of the show. Not only the tour is great , but also funny - David play a James "Bondage" (!) looking after Mr "Ringfinger" - it's full of James Bond jokes, and there is a perfect use of John Barry's famous score.
The other great thing is that you can feel the "innocence" of that period, something that i hope we have not lost forever.

David Copperfield haunted house video

This is one of the great magic tour from David. Everything is perfectly set, and the use of Bernard Hermann's "North by northwest" score is a perfect choice for this new and much improved version of the classic "chamber of spirit" magic tour.
If you've seen it before, you'll be happy to see it again, and if you've never seen it, you're going to love it. The beginning of the video , because youtube don't allow more than 10 minutes clip have been cut, but nothing special happened before what you will see, David just asked people from the audience to check the rope, etc...
And don't miss the "prestige" - the finale of the tour - really stunning!
