Walt Disney and the 1964 World’s Fair 5CD Box Set is a rare behind the scenes look at Walt Disney’s contribution to the 1964 World’s Fair. It was here where Walt unveiled several unique attractions and exhibits that would forever change not only Disneyland, but greatly influence the future of Disney Theme Parks yet to be imagined. This 5-CD Set includes a 24-page full color booklet and more than three hours of recordings from the classic attractions and exhibits Walt Disney and his team of artists created for the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

Experience the sounds of the original Illinois Pavilion from the Illinois Story to an audience with President Lincoln. As a special treat, you'll hear the original recording sessions of the man who gave Mr. Lincoln his voice (Royal Dano) and listen to the lavish original score by Disney legend Buddy Baker also presented as individual tracks.

IT'S A SMALL WORLD

Includes the original demo recording of the legendary song as well as isolated vocals and a grand master mix of the varied international interpretations of the famous tune directly from the attraction soundtrack. Also included is a tour of this charming ''little boat ride'' with Walt Disney as your guide.

MAGIC SKYWAY

Takes you on a time-traveling 'road trip' with Walt Disney as he personally escorts you through the age of dinosaurs, the ascent of man, and to the distant future. Then you can listen to the music from a marvelous band made up entirely of auto parts.

Walt Disney and the 1964 New York World Fair - Part Two : Artwork and pictures

The 1964 New york World's Fair is remembered as the event where Walt Disney imagineers designed and perfected the Audio-animatronics. As we know, WED Enterprises was responsible for the creation of four shows at the Fair. Let's have a closer look at them with original artwork and historical pictures.



The Ford Motor Company pavilion presented Disney's "Magic Skyway" one of the most popular exhibit at the fair, using Ford cars in an early prototype of the Omnimover system to move the audience through scenes featuring life-sized audio-animatronic dinosaurs and cavemen.

Meanwhile, at WED Enterprises, Disney Imagineers were working on the dinosaurs and cavemen Audio-animatronics. Here is Walt with some of the dinos...

At the World's Fair, guests could watched from the outside the vehicles moving inside the building.

If these litlle wheels in the middle of track remember you something, it's normal, as the cars were moving with the same system used for Disneyland and WDW people mover.

Another pavilion was the Illinois pavilion, where guests meets a life-like Abraham Lincoln recited his famous speeches "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln." WED sculptor Blaine Gibson created the head sculpture of Lincoln. On the picture below, here he is with Walt.



For the General Electric pavilion, the imagineers created the beloved Carousel of progress where the audience seated in the revolving auditorium saw an audio-animatronics presentation of the progress of electricity in the home. The Sherman Brothers song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" was as we know composed for this attraction.

The Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco will open soon and on the site is a special exhibit about Walt Disney and the 1964 World Fair from where some of the pictures above are coming from. More pictures and videos HERE.

I would like to add this interesting artwork of the World Fair monorail going through a building. This was not designed by Disney imagineers, but when i saw it i instantly thought about the Contemporary Resort. When they were at the World Fair in 1964 the imagineers saw very probably that scene in real, and who knows if it was not part of their inspiration for the Contemporary at WDW?

Walt Disney, the Imagineers, and the 1964 World Fair Magic Skyway project

Here are a selection of pictures of Walt at Walt Disney Imagineering workshop - at that time called "WED Enterprises". You will recognize among others Imagineers Mary Blair, John Hench, Marc Davis , Claude Coats, sculptor Blaine Gibson, all these legendary imagineers who created the attractions we all love. And, too, the model of New Orleans quare, the Matterhorn, the Pirates of Caribbean attraction, the Plaza Garden and a head sculpture of Pirates , and one of the audio-animatronics.

But today, we're also going to talk about the 1964 World Fair and the Magic Skyway attraction that WED created for it. On the first youtube video below, Walt presents the project, directly from the imagineering workshop. The second one is a clever editing of pictures of the attraction at the world's fair, with the original audio commentary of Walt himself.
And i added for the pleasure a third youtube video not about the Magic Skyway, but about the Futurama 2 attraction , always at the 1964 world fair.
