D&M Survey : Do You Wish That DLP Walt Disney Studios Tower of Terror Will Be Transformed in a Guardians of Galaxy ride?

I've added on Disney and more today a new survey, and an important one as the question for this one is : do you wish that the Walt Disney Studios Tower of Terror will be transformed in a Guardians of Galaxy ride, similar to the one at DCA? Apparently the final choice has not been done yet in the big WDS Placemaking, so it is now or never to let DLP know what is your favorite choice!

Go ahead, place your answer NOW, the survey is on the top of the right column AND you can add your comments below! ( but definitely VOTE  to tell your choice )

You can ALSO write a comment on the similar post on the Disney and More Facebook page HERE.

Get Ready to Rock Out on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

Just released by the folks of D23, and it's about the music in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy ride at DCA: "Get Ready to Rock Out on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!:
Guardians of the Galaxy is just as well known for its awesome music as it is for its irreverent comedy and lovable, quirky characters, and the brand-new attraction at Disney California Adventure park is no different. If you’ve been wondering which of the songs would be on the attraction’s awesome mix, wonder no more! We got the inside scoop from the folks behind the new attraction, opening May 27 at Disney California Adventure park.

John Dennis, executive creative director of music at Walt Disney Imagineering (how cool is that job?), told us about the process for coming up with the six songs you can hear during a rockin’ ride on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! John and his team used Star-Lord’s awesome mix as a starting point, and ended up testing out 100 different songs to find the right fit. The six chosen for the attraction are the perfect mix of fun and funky and help make each ride on the thrilling attraction a truly unique experience. Check out the “playlist” below and let us know which song you’re most excited to hear during your first ride on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!"

“I Want You Back” – The Jackson 5
“Hit Me With Your Best Shot” – Pat Benatar
“Give Up the Funk” – Parliament
“Born to Be Wild” – Steppenwolf
“Burning Love” – Elvis Presley
“Free Ride” – The Edgar Winters Group

Now, i have to say - even if i'm among those who is not specially excited by this GoG ride - that it's a pretty smart move from WDI Imagineers. Why? Because it's true that the soundtrack of the first GoG movie did a lot for the spectators enjoyment of the movie and even if the ride has nothing special - after all we all know that it'll be a elevator which will fall because this has not been changed - people will most probably enjoy the famous songs and so they may get out of the ride liking it when in fact it's the music played during the ride that made it special or even memorable. See what i mean? Very smart move from WDI folks.

First Look at DCA Guardians of the Galaxy ex-TOT Re-Designed Facade

Part of the canvas covering Disney's California Adventure Tower of Terror during the transformation of its facade with a Guardians of the Galaxy theme has been removed giving us our first look to the new facade while painters are working on it. It's of course far to be finished but it gives an idea and so far i'm sorry to say that it looks as bad as we feared. With all the respect i have for Joe Rhode i still can't believe they replaced a perfectly themed attraction inspired by one of the best and most known TV series of all time by one inspired by a Deluxe-B movie which will be forgotten in ten years...

Anyway, here are some of the shots posted by different fellows on Instagram, let us know what you think in the comments.

And here is a video filmed by houseofthemouse.

I remind you that once finished the building should look like on the official artwork below.

DCA Tower of Terror Tribute : "Terror tracks", a Twilight Zone Ride Concept by Joseph Pojunis

Disney's California Adventure Tower of Terror closed its doors forever last week and Disney fans were there for the "final check-out". Joseph Pojunis, also a great fan of DCA TOT did a great tribute to the closing of DCA Tower of Terror. He made in video a ride titled "Terror Tracks" inspired by the TOT, but as a train/coaster instead of an elevator. He went as far as calling Mark Silverman - who did the voice of Rod Serling in the attraction - to do the voice acting!

As Joseph says in the video presentation: "Terror Tracks is an homage to Tower of Terror, created as a form of carrying on the legacy of the popular attraction.

The goal for this roller coaster was to follow similar beats to Tower of Terror, while still being a unique attraction. To accomplish this, I've taken iconic moments from the real ride (The "hallway" scene, the "wave goodbye" scene, etc) and re-profiled them to fit a new theme. In this setting, riders of an underground subway train are sent plummeting into the Twilight Zone via a rickety old track inspection vehicle.

One aspect of this project that I'm particularly proud of is our voice actor, Mark Silverman. As some of you may know, this is the man who voices all three of the actual Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror attractions at Disney's California Adventure, Disney's Hollywood Studios (Florida), and Disney's Hollywood Studios (Paris)."

WDI Reveal the New Design of the TOT - Guardians of Galaxy : Mission Breakout Building at Disney's California Adventure

WDI released a new video with Joe Rhode and others Imagineers working on the transformation of DCA Tower of terror in the Guardians of Galaxy Collector fortress. They do their best to explain how they want to create a new building" which will look beautiful day and night" but the problem - if you have a look at all the articles posted on the web since the video was released a few hours ago - and all the comments on Youtube is that everybody think that it looks in fact ugly (!) As someone says in his comment on Youtube: "It doesn't look beautiful at all. It looks hideous. On top of that, it doesn't even look like any of you (save for Mr. Dangle Ear) are that excited about the project at all. This is the worst idea in the history of Disneyland and you all know it."

As for me, and with all the respect i have for Joe Rhode - and i have a LOT of respect for Joe - i have to say that i am not, too, convinced by the transformation. It's not that i really think it's ugly and i am ready to give to the Imagineers the benefit of the doubt until the opening of the new ride next year but i have the feeling that it's going to be hard to convince me that "it looks beautiful". The big problem we have here is that the TOT building can be seen almost from any point you're standing at DCA and if it happen that it looks as ugly as the fans so far think it will, then DLR will have a major problem to resolve...

Check the video below and let us know what YOU think of the new design of the building!

D&M Special : WDI Announces "Guardians of Galaxy - Mission : Breakout" Ride For Disney's California Adventure Tower of Terror

Well, i promised you that i will be back if there was anything big announced before i came back from Shanghai, sure i was that it shouldn't happen ...and i was wrong, as today at Comic Con Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced the rumored Guardians Of Galaxy "Mission Break-out" ride! So, i keep my promise and i'm back for a "D&M Special" article about this new GoG ride!

WDI Imagineer Joe Rhode tell us more about this new ride in the video below, a new attraction that will change forever the Tower of Terror ride at DCA, but here is the official release with renderings. And as you'll see on the one above showing the new exterior of the Tower of Terror some radical changes in its design will happen. which also mean for all Twilight Zone Tower of Terror fans that there probably will not be any turning back to the TOT in the future, i'm sorry to say... And now here is the press release, artworks and Joe Rhode presentation video:

Beginning in summer 2017, the outrageous and irreverent gang will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! – a comically high-energy, rocking new adventure. Guests will be right in the mix with characters from the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. They are trapped in customized display cases, suspended over a vast abyss. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help. Guests board a gantry lift, which launches them into a chaotic and hilarious adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to break his fellow Guardians out of captivity.

The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Disney California Adventure park. This exciting new presence will transform the structure currently housing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ (scheduled to close in early 2017) into an epic new adventure, enhancing the breathtaking free fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. Guests will experience multiple random, unique ride profiles in which the rise and fall of the gantry lift will rock to the beat of music inspired by the film’s popular soundtrack.

Tower of Terror Projection Show Envisioned for DLP Walt Disney Studios Park ?

According to our always well informed friends of ED92 a possible new night show could come at Walt Disney Studios Park:

"This will take the form of a show of video-projections and other special effects on the façade which will be refurbished soon of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Somewhat in the same spirit as in its acclaimed inaugural show in 2008.

This new production would come for the next Christmas season - so in just a few months - to help to better distribute the guests and would be play thereafter as needed: Christmas Season, Marvel Nights - the Tony Stark Parties which ED92 already mentioned earlier, Star Wars evenings, Halloween Season. Note that this show would not be everyday, but only on periods of high attendance and future special evenings."

Let me tell you that nothing could be better as a WDS night show than to have a show similar to the TOT opening show on the facade of the TOT. When it was held for the opening of the TOT, where i was invited, the first thing i said to myself when i came out, so the show had been stunning, was "but why don't they do a night show like this every night for the guests?!? ". Obviously it was a question of money, but in the meantime technology has improved and projections shows costs are less expensive so if ED92 is right may be we'll finally get it!

In the meantime, for those of you who were not there during this memorable TOT grand opening evening, here is the full show which, because of its length, is on several videos, and in 480p only as at that time the digital cameras filming in Full HD were not really available. Note that we may not have an exactly similar show as this Grand Opening show involved dozens of extras in addition to the projections, though the smart decision to guarantee an instant success would be to do an exactly similar one.

That said, note that apparently they did tests a few weeks ago with Star Wars footage, so may be they'll use the facade for a Star Wars projection show, though there will be a serious problem of meaning to have a Star Wars show on the TOT facade as there is no link between both. A meaning problem they don't have with the Disney Dreams show as DLP castle is the symbol for any Disney fairy tale, not only Sleeping Beauty.

Fantastic Tokyo Disney Sea Pictorial Report By Maureen - Part One

Maureen, D&M contributor and webmaster of the new and excellent Hello Disneyland website, is back with fantastic pictures of Tokyo Disney Sea, which is for many - and for good reasons - the most beautiful Disney theme park in the world. The pictures were shot with a Nikon D300S during her first trip to TDS a while ago and i think she did a real good job that you're gonna like.

Editing: The part two of this TDS pictorial report is now online on D&M HERE!

We'll start by TDS entrance and some views of Mediterranean Harbor and Mysterious Island.

Let's move to Port Discovery, and have a look at the wall in the background on the pictures below. The real sea is right behind it, although there is a road and the TDR monorail track that you can't see on the picturse between the wall and the sea. Still, the sea is probably at just twenty meters from the wall / barrier and i've always wondered how it will hold in case of a tsunami... Well, i suppose if the tsunami is high enough it will go over it and we won't have to ask the question anymore!

The TDS elevated tramway goes from Port Discovery to American Waterfront where none can't miss the impressive Tower of Terror building.

The re-creation of New York harbor with the huge S.S Columbia as well as many others ships all with an impressive size is amazing.

Twelve Years Old Boy Paralysed After Riding Tower of Terror at DLP WDS

Reliable french newspaper Libération revealed this morning that a twelve years old boy from Argentina who have ride Tower of Terror on November 23 is now in extremely bad condition at Paris Necker Hospital, the two legs and arms paralyzed.

He was with his mother and father - who is a doctor - at DLP Walt Disney Studios that Nov 23 when, after riding the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, he began to don't feel well after a few steps out of the elevator. His father sent him instantly to WDS infirmary and DLP doctor, after a few minutes, decided to call the SAMU (french urgency ambulance) to transport the child at Necker hospital in Paris.

When they arrived at Necker neurology department the doctors noticed that his arms are paralyzed. Since then, everything got worse as his legs also became paralyzed, he began to had difficulties to breathe, even did a respiratory stop, and since then was transferred in reanimation unit. Hopes that he recover seems to be extremely low. Radiological exams revealed "a bone and medullary contusion" and, according to Libération article, the doctors are almost sure that there is a link with the TOT ride.

Before this happened the young boy, named Bautista, was according to his family in very good health and in his country playing rugby, basket and even martial arts. DLP confirmed that the young boy came at the park infirmary and was sent to Necker Hospital. Although it's hard to understand how someone can become paralyzed after a ride at Tower of Terror, it seems that young children still growing up might be more fragile as their bones and nerves are not as strong as when you're an adult.

Update: According to a comment from a D&M reader from Argentina it seems that the young boy went to Crush Coaster after the TOT ride, and also went to the infirmary walking. It is also said that the boy might have had a previous and unnoticed bad condition that got worse with the ride(s). Which, i must say, could be possible, specially if this 12 years old boy is regularly playing rugby or martial arts... (end of update)

This is the third serious incident that happened at DLP this year - after the two BTM accidents - and this one obviously can't involve a maintenance problem. It is truly dramatic as a twelve years old child who was dreaming to go at Disneyland saw his dream becoming a nightmare and all my thoughts are with his family, hoping that he will finally recover and find back the use of his arms and legs.

Below, the full Libération article, in french, for my french readers, or anyone reading french.

D&M Archives : WDS Tower of Terror Grand Opening

On April 5th 2008 the Grand opening event of the Tower of terror happened at the Walt Disney Studios, and, although the day didn't began that well due to a terrible windy and rainy weather the evening was fantastic, with probably the best show i've seen so far for an opening of a new major Disney attraction since the DLP Space Mountain opening. Thanks to 45 photos and 23 videos - as well as the official video - you will see everything of this grand opening event, just like if you have been there!

So, at 3 pm of this April 5th everything began with the Stitch live inauguration, which also had its opening on this glorious day. It was a small show, with a dedication speech and Stitch getting out of a big box. The best was yet to come. You will see the video of this ceremony on the official DLP video below, with some filming of the attraction.

At the exit of the TOT some young european stars did a photo call with Mickey...

At Cinemagique, guests could discover a small placemaking with a new colour and a movie poster gallery.

But the sky was always cloudy and rainy which could begin to be a problem for the show later in the evening...And suddenly the miracle happened! All clouds disappeared, the sun came back, and the opening event was saved!

8.15 pm: At the exit of the studio 1 the red carpet awaits for the guests.

And inside it's the final touch to the buffet for the future cocktail.

At the entrance of the Hollywood Boulevard a great mise-en-scène with old cars and extras all dressed with 1930's costumes is a delight for the press photographers.

Everybody gets ready before the guests stars arrives...

Here is a first video of that moment.

At the entrance of the park the gates of an unrecognisable studio 1 are going to open for the special guests, and they will go through a ghostly Studio 1 as blue eerie light, fog and dazzling projection effects are all around, including comedians playing some "ghosts"

Here are three different videos of that moment.

The projection effects were done on curtains at different entrances of the Studio 1 restaurant, here are six short movies of this amazing projection effect.

And now here is a long travelling of what these special guests have discover at their exit of the Studio 1...

The photo call with european tv stars/models/comedians began, with some famous french actors or singers, and of course, some hot babes...

Let's not forget Minnie Mouse...

And Goofy, more "goofy" than ever...

Let's not forget Sebastien Chabal, world's famous french rugbyman.

To give you a better feeling of this photo call atmosphere, here are six different videos.

After what, everybody went to dinner which was very good as usual and came back at 10.30 pm for the fantastic show on the TOT.

Before we arrive to the show, let's have a look to the lighting all around the area.
Hollywood Boulevard have a unusual blue lighting, and the Tower of terror is purple, but as we will see, not for long...

The Twilight Zone fiber optic effect worked, too...

But one of the genious idea was this TOT elevator which seems to have crashed on the street in front of the Hotel! I think they should keep it there forever, it will make a great photo location!

As you may have notice in the background, the colour of the TOT has changed, and the colour will change again before the beginning of the show to THIS

At that point, the TOT looked like a big gift box with a yellow ribbon all around it, and it is now that the fantastic inauguration show will begin! I don't spoil you the beginning - so, something happens, and then we are back in time at the end of the 30's, and the streets suddenly comes alive with old cars and dozens of comedians and extras all dressed, of course, in 1930's costumes. You will find below two versions of the filming of the show: first, my filming, where you'll see the complete show, with no cut, and right after the official video from DLP, which is an edited version of the show, but where you'll see some details of it. I strongly suggest you to see both of them , and mine first to enjoy the show in its continuity. Here is the first part of the show of my filming.

Then, all of them go back in the Hollywood Tower Hotel for a big party - always supposedly in 1938 - and guess what will happen? Here is the part two of the show.

On the part three, the whole hotel fall in the Twilight Zone!

And now, here comes the other genious idea of the evening: all of these people that we saw going inside the hotel for this fateful party are coming back as ghosts to take us inside the hotel!

Now, here is the DLP official filming of the show, with at the end, some images from the elevator, and the Stitch opening ceremony.

Inauguration Tour de la terreur 5 avril vidéo... by titidomerat

Let's come back to the evening. What was great is that the "ghosts" joined everybody in the queue, and were even coming with you through the lobby, the library and the boiler room - but not inside the elevator! I suppose that they had enough Twilight Zone experience 70 years ago!
Here are some of them below, and a short video. The acting was very good, too, as they looked at us, wondering what we were doing here...in their hotel!

All the guests invited at this grand opening went of course inside the TOT - and checked out alive! But, believe it or not, the evening was not over yet, as now everybody joined a big party inside the Studio 1, with champagne, petit fours and pretty girls, too. Here are some photos and a video - a long travelling through the party.

So, this grand opening evening was, as you've seen, absolutely fantastic and memorable and we must give a big tribute to everybody at Disneyland Paris who've created it, really!

Hope you've enjoyed this grand opening report, probably the longest - and i hope the best - i've ever done on Disney and more. See you soon!
