DLP Walt Disney Studios and Disney California Adventure Spiderman Attraction Vehicle Unveiled

The new Spiderman ride coming to both DLP Walt Disney Studios and Disney California Adventure will be the next Marvel attraction to open in 2021 and so far only rendering of the exterior buildings have been released by Disney. Now, WDWNT has posted the digital rendering below showing the loading room and the ride vehicle.

I couldn't find if the concept-art was officially released by Disney or only leaked by WDWNT...
Editing: Just been confirmed that the concept-art is in fact an internal visual that was not supposed to be released officially ( that's why the usual "copyright Disney" is not on it ) and has been leaked by WDWNT.

The important point here is that it shows a vehicle themed with the red and blue Spidey colors where 8 people will sit - twice 4 guests back to back like in Toy Story Mania, except here they'll be 4 on each side instead than twice 2 back to back in TSM.

The vehicle will then move in the show building and will stop in front of screens where the rumor says that guests will sling webs like Spiderman. When the ride blueprints were unveiled recently Disney fanswere a bit disappointed as they thought that it will be simply a new kind of Toy Story Mania kind of ride with guests wearing 3D glasses, etc... But what D&M can tell you is that it will be indeed a sling shot ride but not in its formal way. I can't reveal everything but let's say that the trackless vehicles won't only slide on the floor - they will slide, but not only...

I remind you Disney's official attraction description so far: “Both parks will feature an exciting new attraction where guests of all ages can join the heroes in action. Disney is expanding its story universe by creating a new organization, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, to be the setting for this experience. Though WEB is grounded in classic characters like Peter Parker, it is an organization that all guests can be a part of – one that invites guests to engage with these iconic heroes like never before. Besides WEB, there’s also brand-new, cutting-edge interface as part of this fun, interactive attraction. Through a blend of never-before-seen technology and practical effects, guests will get to experience for themselves what it is like to have the abilities of a Super Hero.”

WDWNT also has noticed that the vehicle was in fact hidden in plain sight in the poster announcing the Marvel Land for Disneyland Resort, this poster...

Don't see the vehicle? It's here:

In another post today WDWNT also posted renderings of the facade of the W.E.B. Suppliers store to be located at the exit of the ride at Disney California Adventure. More pics on WDWNT HERE.

There is little doubt that we will learn more about the ride at the D23 Expo Parks and Resorts presentation next month. Both rides are anounced for an opening in 2021!

A Closer Look at DLP Walt Disney Studios Marvel Land Artwork

Yesterday Disney released the above concept-art showing the future Marvel Land at DLP Walt Disney Studios. We already know that the land will include an Iron Man roller coaster inside the Rock and Roller Coaster building and a Spiderman attraction in the Armaggedon building - and that chances are high that it will be the same Spiderman ride than the one they build at Disney's California Adventure, but more about this later.

That said, there is more to say about this rendering and i suggest we have a closer look at it. First, we can see that they did their best to show the future land without showing too much of it, as not less than 19 people ( supposed guests ) are standing in the foreground and even more in the background hiding details ofthe land.

However, if we blow up the image some interesting details appear. Let's start by the right, showing the current Armaggedon building with its future look for the Spidey ride. Spiderman is hanging up there to make sure we get it, that here will be his attraction, and, yes, we got it. Under him Black Widow and Black Panther stand on an Avengers jeep and the big Avengers logo is on the right of the building. So far, this part of the artwork is quite clear.

Let's have a look now at the left part of the rendering...

The two people on the foreground hide as much as they can the building where is currently the Rendez-Vous des Stars restaurant but if we zoom even more on the visual we can see the letters "PYM" above the current entrance - see picture below - which is obviously a reference to Dr Hank Pym played by Michael Douglas in Ant-Man, the one who created the famous Ant-Man costume and we can guess that the theme of the restaurant will have a link with Ant-Man.

Let's have a look now at the center part of the artwork, the most interesting one. First, among the people standing in the middle we can see clearly THOR holding his hammer and apparently talking with a kid and some older person who looks to be ...Stan Lee himself as some DLP fans already noticed.

Now, let's have a look at the background, on the right, after the blue building, where we can see on an elevated platform the Quinjet - the Avengers plane. For your info, the Quinjet first appeared in The Avengers issue 61 on February 1969, and was designed by the Wakanda Design Group, headed by the Black Panther. The Quinjet is equipped with VTOL capability and five turbojet engines.

But why the Quinjet is located here,  so close to the stunt show entrance? Well, actually the plan is to keep the stunt show for a while with a new Marvel storyline and theming but later - i.e in quite a few years - chances are that Disney will add the big Avengers ride - the one which will open in 2023 at HKDL Tomorrowland - after removing the stunt show.

There is more to see in the background and it's where will be the entrance of the Iron Man coaster. Right now we can see for the attraction facade a structure which envelops the building - with curves reminding a bit the ones of the beautiful TRON canopy at Shanghaî Disneyland, but don't dream to have a structure as big as the one at SDL because it won't be the case. Actually, i should say "guess" rather than "see" this facade as the rendering don't allow to see what will be the visual displayed on it. There is a good reason why they've voluntarily overexposed this part, and it's because Disney don't want you to see - not yet - what the visual will be as it would be a MAJOR spoiler. I think i have a pretty good idea what it will show but i've promised to don't talk so unfortunately you will have to wait that Bob Chapek will reveal it, most probably next year at the 2019 D23 Expo in Anaheim.

In the meantime, those who wish to guess can read again yesterday's D&M article HERE which was basically a copy and paste of the Disney Parks Blog post which included unvoluntarily a clue that can eventually help you to find ...if you're good enough to make links with ...something else.  Good luck!

First "Disney Love Jazz" Evening at DLP Walt Disney Studios - Full Concert Video!

Yesterday evening the first "Disney Love Jazz" event happened at DLP Walt Disney Studios. Lot of guests were there for the evening, and a selection of attractions were also opened in the WDS, with small jazz orchestras here and there. But the highlight of the evening was the 90 minutes concert which happened at Moteurs, Action where a special stage for the orchestra and singers was installed.

The orchestra was France bleue Symphonic Orchestra, an excellent one as you'll hear, and Jazz singers Selah Sue, Ben l'Oncle Soul, China Moses, Myles Sanko, Hugh Coltman &  Robin McKelle sang a selection of Disney beloved songs re-orchestrated with a jazz rhythm for this special evening.

The concert, thanks to the 28 great musicians and the singers as well as the new arrangements, was truly excellent so let's hope that it won't be a one shot only and that DLP will organize it again next year. Max, D&M contributor and DLP Welcome webmaster was there and has filmed the full concert so, enough talk, and on with the show!

Disneyland Paris Update Part 3 : Walt Disney Studios Renovations, New "Value" Hotel for DLP, and more

Here is the part three of the big Disneyland Paris update, and this one is all about what's happening at DLP Walt Disney Studios, and more, thanks to Max, D&M contributor and DLP Welcome webmaster. Let's start by WDS « Studio 1 » building, which currently have its facade in renovation.

The Tower of terror continues to be covered with scaffolding for its long renovation.

And, yes, there will be plenty of renovation works to do!

Works to double the road network near the « Santa Fe » Hotel and the « Disney’s Sequoia Lodge » continues. This work carried out by the state were planned with Disney in a development plan signed in 2014. The origin of the works is simple, it is the coordination between the road works and the opening of a new « All-Stars » value hotel like the ones at Walt Disney World in Florida. We know it's most certainly is a value resort because in the docs between Disney and the state it is written that this zone is made for a "value" ( hotel cut off of everything and surrounded by roads ). Not to mention its characteristic shape of the All Stars hotels. The deduction is done. But, as you know, there is no work zone and even less announcement from Disney regarding this hotel. It is in these moments that we clearly see the delays and shortcomings of the company even it had commit to a development with the government. The State thus finds itself to have to invest in new, and for now useless, infrastructures, for today and at least the next two years, only to respect its part of the contract.

Disney Hotel "All Stars" : Waiting since more than 2 years: The plan below comes from the phase 4 signed between Disney and the state ( public document ) which rules the development of this area. Thus, the state being responsible for the road network it builds the network according to the projected development negotiated between Disney and the state with different deadlines. Road works to adapt the road traffic to a building is usually the last to be done.  So the road under construction today means that it's been 2 years since the works for this hotel should have started to open at the same time, at the end of the road works done by the state.

Disneyland Paris :
Rose/Pink : Disneyland Park
Bleu/Blue : Walt Disney Studios Park
Rouge/Red : Disney Village
Orange/Orange : Disney Hotels

From November 2018 to April 2019, the swimming pool of the « Disney’s Sequoia Lodge » and its fitness room will be closed to visitors for renovation. A reconfiguration of the changing rooms, the reception and the fitness room will be done to optimize the space and fit better to guests practices. Here are the blueprints.

The Best DLP News of the Week is Confirmed by Disneyland Paris : Cinemagique Attraction is Coming Back at WDS Theatre Anytime Soon

The rumor started today and we hadn't to wait too long to know if it was true as it was confirmed late afternoon by Disneyland Paris on Inside Ears: the beloved Cinemagique attraction will be back at DLP Walt Disney Studios Theatre, most probably this fall. It will be of course the same movie with hopefully the same in-theatre effects.

DLP did not give any details, just saying that “more information will be shared at a later stage” and  it’s still unclear at exactly what date the attraction will be back or for how long it will return, but it's good news anyway.

Of course this means that the Avengers United stunt show will stop playing in the same theatre but it was supposed to play only during the Summer of Marvel Super-Heroes, so it's logical that it stops. The show will probably be back next summer, with probably improved special effects - like the drones part - which needed it. It's not a bad stunt show but it needs improvements, and i'm sure that at DLP everyone is aware of it.

In the meantime the comeback of Cinemagique is "the best DLP news of the week" as it is an emotional movie, a bit dated yes, but still a great tribute to Cinema history and Martin Short and Julie Delpy are great in it. Don't miss it when it will be back if you visit DLP WDS at that time because you won't see Cinemagique in any other Disney theme park!

DLP Walt Disney Studios Expansion Latest Master Plan Unveiled

What is supposed to be the latest approved master plan for DLP Walt Disney Studios expansion has been leaked and posted on Disney Central Plaza forum by someone named Andrew Ryan. Apparently it's not a fake and it's the real thing so we'll have a closer look at it. The one posted on DCP by Andrew Ryan is the one above but note that it is not the original DLPI master plan but one identical that Andrew Ryan did after seeing the original master plan. An article posted yesterday added some colors to see a bit more clearly what is what, it's the version below, to which i've added some text.

In Purple color it's he Marvel land buildings ( attractions, shops or restaurants )
In Yellow color the ones of Frozen land ( attractions, shops or restaurants )
In Blue color it's the ones of Star Wars land ( attractions, shops or restaurants )
and in Green color it's the Studio Tram Tour as, against all expectations, it seems they will keep the Tram Tour, at least for a while.
In Red color it's others unknown attractions, out of the main three new lands, and in Orange color it's restaurants located near the central lake.

Let's start by the Marvel land as, big surprise, the Armageddon attraction building which was expected to be the first one to be removed for a new attraction is still there. May be the attraction itself will be removed from the building but the building is still on the master plan and, as it's not a big show building, it could mean that they don't plan to put instead a new ride here, at least in the first phase of the expansion. A Marvel super-heroes meet and greet was rumored to open there so may be that's what will come inside the show building.

Always in the Marvel land the Stunt show structure  is still on the plan, but that one it's normal as they never planned to remove it now, only to change the stunt show theme to be replaced by a Marvel theme in a near future, may be when the land will be completed in 2021. The restaurants of the former Backlot will be rethemed, but this we knew it already. Apparently the completion of the Marvel land is scheduled for 2020 / 2021.

On our way to the Central Lake we note that no show building for the Alien Swirling Saucers ride ( like the one which just opened at WDW DHS Toy Story Land ) is included on the plan even if we could see it clearly on the official rendering released early this year, the artwork that you can see below. So may be the Alien Swirling Saucers ride is cancelled...

Now, more about the lake: on the rendering below the lake seems to have a quite oval shape - though the perspective view of the artwork may be tricky - and now, as you can see on the plan, its shape looks more like a circle. If the lake size has changed there is some reasons for that which would be too long to explain here, let's just say that it's probably not for budget reasons or the park blueprint itself. Around the lake the buildings color orange will be restaurants. We can also see that paths will be created around the lake, most probably for guests who will stand around the lake to watch the show. I wouldn't be surprised if the paths will be built at different levels like they did at DCA Paradise Park for those watching World of Color, as it help to have different rows at different levels to don't have guests in the front row blocking the view for those behind.

Talking about the lake, someone has checked and apparently it seems that the lake will be as big as the central one of Tokyo DisneySea's Mediterranean Harbor in front of the Hotel Mira Costa, where is happening daily the water parade. The lake of DisneySea looks bigger to me, though, so we'll see. You'll also notice on the plan a water area outside the lake, on the right of the Frozen land. As it looks like a similar one at TDS - from where TDS floating floats are coming from - some wonder if the same kind of floating parade is envisioned for DLP WDS, with the floating floats hiding in this area until it's parade time. Could be the case indeed, but they've also planned a spectacular nighttime fountain show on the lake, meaning that all the fountain equipment will be located underwater and i'm not sure that the floats can move over it... we'll see, may they can if the fountain equipment can retract deeply enough inside the lake once the nighttime show is over.

On the left and right before arriving to the lake the red buildings are supposed to be attractions. The big one on the left remains for now a mystery but the little round one on the right could be a carousel...

Let's move to Star Wars land on the left of the lake where the biggest show building is the one for the E-Ticket attraction and its shape looks exactly like the show building of the "Battle Escape" ride currently being built at DL and WDW DHS. So there is no doubt that this ride will come too at WDS SWL ...though i've been told that the ride could have some differences. No show building for the Millenium Falcon ride can be seen on the plan, meaning that the attraction won't be there in the phase one, may be in the future when the budget for it will be approved or if the ride capacity per hour is not a problem when it will open in the U.S. That said, the Star Wars land as it looks right now on the plan is obviously a smaller one, we'll see if it'll be the case when the land will open when it is scheduled in 2024, year of the Olympic Games in Paris.

Nearby, WDS guests will find the Frozen land with one e-Ticket ride in the big show building that you can see on the master plan, but so far no sleighs roller coaster like the one being added to HKDL Frozen land is indicated, meaning that here, too, the land may have only one e-Ticket ride when it will open in 2022 or 2023.

As i've said they apparently intend to keep the Tram Tour, with a shorter track though, may be because Catastrophe Canyon is so popular, and it helps to keep an attraction. Fans have noticed something interesting on the left of what is supposed to be the Tram Tour station, where you can see small orange spots. It looks like the Cozy Cone Motel at Cars land and if you look at a satellite view of it, the orange spots looks very much like the Cozy Cone Motel . On the picture below i've placed on the same angle a satellite view of the Cozy Cone Motel at DCA Cars Land so you'll see what i mean.

As you can see on the master plan there is clearly room for future expansion on the right of the lake, and because the supposed Cozy Cone Motel is so intriguing - why would they put it here when there is no Cars Land nearby? - some wonder if it means that DLP plan to build a Cars Land in the future. So, Andrew Ryan did another plan, this one not from an official DLP plan, in which he shows how could be include a Cars Land on the right. Not sure that the scale is 100% right, though, but even if it was 50% bigger, it could fit.

Personally, i'm still not sure that a Cars Land will be added to the WDS. Not that i think it won't be a good idea but because of the cost of it, DLP weather for the outdoor portion of the ride and the maintenance of Cars Land mountains. When we see that they need to repaint DLP Big Thunder Mountain so often, i have some doubts about how long will stay the ochre color of Cars Land mountains and how often they would need to repaint them...

The other long time rumored land for the WDS is the hugely popular Pandora land. I'll be happy to have Pandora at the WDS and here the issue might not be the painting but Pandora's extraterrestrial vegetation as DLP weather is not really tropical like in Florida. But Disney apparently is waiting to see if the Avatar sequels will be a success before bringing Pandora in others Disney parks, so we'll have to wait for this one. It didn't stopped Andrew Ryan to do another map showing how a Pandora land could also fit on the right of the lake, and this, even with a Cars Land under it. If the scale is right, apparently there is room enough to build both lands.

That said, when we look at the expansion plan as it is right now, clearly the 2 Billion budget announced for DLP and WDS expansion won't be spent entirely in the WDS expansion ...which is in fact rather a good news as it means that they've kept a big part of the $2B budget for others additions ay DLP Magic Kingdom, a park which also desperately need new attractions. An announcement about this should come probably next year, so we'll talk again about it at that time.

Plans done by Andrew Ryan
