BREAKING NEWS: Disneyland Paris Reveal Plans for a Major Overhaul of Disney Village Shopping and Dining Complex

BREAKING NEWS: Francis Borezée, Euro Disney’s vice president of resort and real estate development reveal that Disneyland Paris is planning a major overhaul and expansion of the Disney Village shopping and dining area. We're not talking here about something of the size of WDW Disney Springs but it will be very welcome anyway.

Excerpts from the Forbes article HERE: "Last month Disney’s chief executive Bob Iger announced a $2.4 billion (€2 billion) expansion of the movie-themed Studios park which will see the addition of lands inspired by Star Wars, Marvel Comics and hit animated film Frozen. It is one of Euro Disney’s biggest-ever expansion projects and will be launched in phases from 2021.

It doesn’t stop there as Disney has now revealed that it is also giving a sprinkle of pixie dust to its 44,000m2 Disney Village, the largest entertainment center in greater Paris.

“We have renewed a number of attractions in the parks so the next step will be to renew the Disney Village,” says Francis Borezée, Euro Disney’s vice president of resort and real estate development. The huge complex next to the parks was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry and has an industrial style which was popular when it opened in the 1990s. It is packed with shops, restaurants and even a rodeo. It could get even bigger.

“We will start with the renovation but then we have an opportunity to expand where today we have tents which are used for business events,” says Borezée. “If we do that we could develop a new convention center.” Given that the rodeo has been there since day one it is hard to imagine it staying in a renovation so one suggestion would be to switch it for a show based on a renowned Disney brand.

Disney is still deciding on the style of the Disney Village renovation according to Robert Earl, the owner of celebrity restaurant chain Planet Hollywood which has an outlet there. “There is a plan to renovate the restaurant in Paris but Disney are evaluating what they are doing first,” says Earl. “We are discussing with them about Planet Hollywood there but corporate in California haven’t yet decided.”

Borezée says that the expansion of the Studios park could trigger the development of more hotels to add to the seven which are on-site.

“There are locations which are already dedicated for future hotels but there is no decision to go ahead with them until we have the need.” Euro Disney’s latest results show that occupancy in the six months to 31 March 2017 hit 81% so that may not be far off."

Disneyland Paris LEGO Store Finally Opens - Full Report !

Believe it or not but something new opened today at Disneyland Paris and it is the awaited LEGO Store at the Disney Village - DLP "Downtown Disney". The store opening happened this morning at 9 a.m with DLP Ambassadors and Ward Van Duffel, Vice-President and General Manager of LEGO Europe. Let's have a look at this new shop thanks to pictures of Max Fan D&M contributor and DLPWelcome webmaster.

According to Max, this LEGO store looks really great and its design couldn't be more far than the previous Hollywood Pictures store and brings some welcome modern design at the Disney Village.

Before:

Now:

And to inaugurate this first day of the LEGO shop it was a young child who cut the ribbon!

Max also filmed the shop opening on every angle so let's have a look at it in details!

The store include many LEGO statues of different characters, whether from Disney or Pixar movies or even Star Wars with R2D2.

A great Mickey Sorcerer from Fantasia, all made with LEGO bricks!

The "brick wall" allows to find brick of different sizes or colors usually difficult to find. The cups with which you get them have two sizes, the small one is at 9.99€, the large one at 17.99€

The "link" with Disney is present in the shop decor, less in the items on sale as the customer will have the choice between many franchises: Star Wars, Hobbit, Marvel, Simpsons, Princesses ( Disney or not ), Pirates, Creator, etc

Young children can play in a mini playground area...

... and nearby an augmented reality screen allows to see - when you put the box in front of it - how will look the toy once built - good idea!

A little hello from DLP Ambassadors...

You can also create your own LEGO figures, price is 7.99€ for three.

There is too a LEGO Ghost House - looking like Phantom Manor - at 197.99€

The music in the shop is totally different than the one you can hear in the Disney Village, and it's very pleasant to be in a different atmosphere. Although the two dominant colors are the yellow and white, when you're inside the shop the atmosphere is not cold as the lighting and the colors from the LEGO statues brings a happy mood. What is obvious however is the shop modern design in comparison to Disney Village others shops, except World of Disney. But DLP has a plan to change all Disney Village shops in a near future, so...

Note that although they've kept the open doors on the left and right allowing guests to go from one shop to another you'll have to pay for the LEGO items before you go in another shop, contrary at what was possible before. Today's opening was very successful and even after DLP fans were gone the shop was still full of guests from DLP hotels who came in to discover the new shop. One more good news: the shop will be open every day from 9 am till midnight!

The Disneyland Paris that never was - Part Seven : Hotels and Disney Village

Here is the last part of this “Disneyland Paris that never was“ series, in tribute to this wonderful park. And this one should make happy those of you who like never realised projects.

For this last article we go outside the park to have a look to what was formerly known as “Festival Disney “ - now “Disney Village” - the nightime entertainment and shopping area. On our way, let’s stop a minute. One of you once asked me if there were a big fountain project for DLP - i mean, a big one like the one in Epcot, for instance. Well, it’s true that unfortunately there is no big fountain at DLP but WDI imagineers did think about having one as you can see on the picture above.

The entrance of the WDS are up front, the Magic Kingdom is on the left and Disney Village on the right. The concept with the sorcerer’s hat was okay, but i must say the dimensions were by far too big.

This rendering show the entrance of the Disney Village. The metallic tower were done, but not the guitar or the hat theming.

More regrets, however, for this incredible restaurant concept....

And the hotels, you say? Well, here is some incredible hotels-that-never-were concepts. First I have to tell you that some of the most reknown architects in the world were asked to propose different hotel concepts. And the central theme for all the hotels was: America. Weeks later , they all came back with their own proposals: For Austrian architect Hans Hollein, Amercica mean “war”, so he proposed an hotel with the shape of an aircraft carrier (!) as you can see below.

Jean Nouvel, a famous french architect proposed an all-transparent hotel.

Architect Ron Koolhass concept was pretty modern, too.

Robert Venturi proposed another original concept, a tribute to “Fantasia”.

But one of my favorite is this unique concept by Bernard Tschumi with an inside marina.

All of these projects were not developped, and, frankly, if the central theme was “America” , the hotels that were finally built were obviously a better choice. Hope you enjoyed these Disneyland Paris "that never was" articles!
