Shanghaî Disneyland Update: Mandarin Production of Disney's Broadway Musical Beauty and the Beast Coming Soon to Shanghai Disney Resort, New Float and Winter Passe,...

Shanghai Disney Resort announced yesterday that Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the award-winning hit Broadway musical, is coming to life in Mandarin on the Walt Disney Grand Theater stage in 2018, with official casting auditions beginning this month.

This marks the 2nd time Shanghai Disney Resort will work with Disney Theatrical Productions to produce one of the world’s most successful stage musicals in Mandarin. Building on the great success of THE LION KING mandarin production, which will play its final performance on October 8th of this year, Shanghai Disney Resort will collaborate with Disney Theatrical Productions again to bring another Disney classic Broadway spectacle to the Chinese audience.

The Disney landmark musical Beauty and the Beast is one of the longest-running and highest-grossing Broadway shows of all time. Since its Broadway premiere in 1994, Beauty and the Beast has been produced around the globe in 37 countries, been seen by more than 35 million people, earned numerous major arts awards, and is the tenth longest running musical in Broadway history. It is the classic story of Belle, a young woman who is first repelled by, then attracted to a gruff yet big-hearted Beast, who is really a young prince trapped within a beast’s body. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, and a book by Linda Woolverton, Beauty and the Beast is a romantic journey where things are not always as they seem.

The new show is recruiting China’s music theatre stars as well as up and coming talent from across China at both invited and open call auditions. These auditions exemplify the resort’s strong commitment to showcase China’s top performers, and its dedication to developing local music theatre talent. Shanghai Disney Resort continues to support the growth of China’s cultural industries while bringing spectacular world-class live entertainment to guests.

The introduction of the Mandarin production of Beauty and the Beast will be a magnificent addition to the one-of-a-kind, immersive entertainment guests can discover at Shanghai Disney Resort. Beauty and the Beast will be performed at the 1,200-seat Walt Disney Grand Theater, one of most visited landmarks at the resort.

Also in what has become a fan-favorite Shanghai Disney Resort tradition, this September the resort will introduce an enchanting new parade float for the 2017 Shanghai Tourism Festival, bringing magic and excitement to spectators in Shanghai and viewers from around the country. Lion King and Beauty and the Beast Animators Veterans Team Up for 2D Animation Steampunk Movie Project "Hullabaloo"

As we know Disney Animation Studios don't do anymore 2D animated films, the last one if i'm right was Princess and the Frog - which i loved - and also eventually Paperman as short animated.  Traditional animation is such a beautiful art form that i never understood why Disney decided to stop 2D animation, specially considering that Princess and the Frog was so good.

Anyway, there's a team of Disney veteran animators who have joined forces to create a 2D animated steampunk adventure called Hullabaloo. It will be a hand drawn animated short that they hope will turn into a web or TV series or, even better, a feature length animated movie, which would be amazing!

Here's the synopsis of the story that revolves around two incredibly smart female inventors:

"Hullabaloo is the story of Veronica Daring, a brilliant young scientist who returns home from an elite finishing school to find her father–the eccentric inventor Jonathan Daring–missing without a trace! The only clue left behind points Veronica toward Daring Adventures, an abandoned amusement park used by her father to test his fantastical steam-powered inventions. There she discovers a strange girl named Jules, a fellow inventor who agrees to help Veronica in locating her missing father and discovering the secrets of his work.

James Lopez (The Lion King, Pocahontas, Paperman) and Rick Farmiloe (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin) are part of the animators team bringing this project to life. The project already has raised $108,000 dollars which is above their initial goal of $80,000 on Indiegogo, so hopefully we'll see this short 2D animated comes to life. Have a look at the video below presenting the project and showing clips of Hullabaloo.

New Imagineering Video Unveiled WDW New Fantasyland Maurice's Cottage

Walt Disney Imagineering released a new video showing Maurice’s Cottage at WDW New Fantasyland. The video shows the whimsical garden and cottage theming which includes inventions created by Belle’s father, Maurice as well as others items participating to the theming.

But the reason why you have to watch this video till the end is to see the magic mirror which magically becomes a portal into Beast’s Castle. There is a real good trick here and after watching the video several times i still can't totally guess how they do it. Sure the pixie dust, lights and projection effects are obvious but the mirror is getting bigger little by little until it apparently becomes a door - the portal to Beast's Castle - and it's really well done. Have a look!

WDW New Fantasyland : Beauty and the Beast Statue seen in DHS Backlot : Mystery Resolved

Some days ago, WDWNewsToday posted a picture shot during the backlot tour at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The picture was showing what they called a "Massive Beauty and the Beast Statue" and they were wondering if it will go in the Beauty and the Beast area in Magic Kingdom's New Fantasyland.

Well, I don't want to be disappointing but, as you can see on the picture above, this Beauty and the Beast statue is in fact coming from the same mold that was used to create the B&B statue that already exist at Hong Kong Disneyland Fantasyland Royal Banquet Hall Restaurant since 2005. It's exactly the same statue, and it's not "massive" as it is about three feet and a half high, approximately. And, yes, there is big chances that the statue will find its place in the Beauty and the Beast restaurant next year.

I've shot the picture last August and it's part of the 200 beautiful HKDL wallpapers pictures of the park that you can find in my HKDL Wallpapers HD application for iPhone - iPad that you can download on the iTunes AppStore HERE.
