DLP 20th Ann Update : Disney Magic on Parade Premiere

Disney Magic on Parade - "La Magie Disney en Parade" - got his premiere yesterday and, although the previous parade will run until the end of the month we have already pictures and videos of this new 20th anniversary parade. First, you have to know that it's not a full new parade, and basically it's the previous parade with one or two new floats and elements as well as one previous float being repainted and a new song theme.

Opinions about it are so-and-so on DLP forums, some like it, others hate it but everyone seems to agree that the soundtrack, the new music, which has one never-ending theme - "Magic Everywhere" - is worst than the previous one, mainly because it never stops. As i didn't saw the parade myself i can't give you my opinion and i will wait until i see it, but from what we can hear on the video i quite agree that this "Magic Everywhere" theme might have been better if it would have stopped or changed instead to remain the same all along the parade. "20th " signs have also been put on each float and DLP fans seems to consider that it's too much "20th" signs, that it would have been better with one only on the opening float.

Among what's new we have the three fairies from "Sleeping Beauty" who are opening the parade...

...just followed by the main new float with the blue fairy and Cinderella god mother fairy.

By the way, the blue fairy is charming, really...

Right after the new float come prince and princesses in their horse carriage, and that's also new.

Most of the floats of the previous parade didn't had changes and, thanks god, the've kept the great Alice in Wonderland float, one of my favorite!

That said, the characters on the floats had some changes and for instance it's now Raiponce and Flynn instead of Aladdin and Jasmine...

Just before the last float - which now have new colors - are introduced new witches/magicians who were not there in the previous version.

This last float which had before prince and princesses characters now have Goofy, Donald, Mickey, Minnie and Chip and Dale all dressed as magicians, and Mickey is on the top.

And now, on with the show with the video of this Disney Magic on Parade and if you stay till the very end you will have a "Tinkerbell" surprise!

The next big thing to come for DLP 20th anniversary is of course the awaited Disney Dreams! show directed by Steven Davison. You saw early this week the first official picture - that i repost below - but here is a video of the rehearsals filmed by a fan from the Disneyland Hotel - with no sound, it's normal, he was too far. If you want to keep the surprise till we have a real good video of the show it's probably better to don't watch this one as it reveals a big part of the projection effects on Sleeping Beauty castle - and they look great!

I will do an update about this new show early next week but in the meantime i remind you that that you still can order a collector copy of the DLP book. the final price now applies but we're doing a FREE SHIPPING for each order placed before April 31st ! So, go ahead and place your pre-order now for a collector's edition copy while you can get this special offer on this wonderful book!! To know how to order and send your payment please go HERE. What is the common point between the Disney Dream ship and the upcoming WDS Ratatouille ride ?

You'll probably be surprised to learn that the brand new Disney Dream ship and the awaited Ratatouille area opening in 2014 at the WDS have something in common! And what is it, you ask? Well, both of them have (or will have) a "Ratatouille" restaurant! Actually, as the Disney Dream is already operating it's the first one to have a table service restaurant inspired by Pixar's animated movie, and the place is called "Remy".

Now, when the Ratatouille ride will open sometime in 2014 at the Walt Disney Studios park there will be also a "Ratatouille" restaurant. We don't know yet what will be its name but chances are that he will be called also "Remy". So, when i heard that the Disney Dream had also a restaurant inspired by Ratatouille i thought it might be interesting to have a look at how it looks, precisely. Not that the decor of the restaurant that will be build at the WDS will be necessarily the same, probably not, but sometime WDI Imagineers keep the concepts of some elements previously designed to used them on something similar. Again, chances are that the decor won't be the same - and the WDS restaurant will certainly be much bigger than the one on the Disney Dream - but i would not be surprised if we found at WDS Ratatouille restaurant some designs used for the one of the Disney Dream.

So, have a look at this video - filmed recently by the always excellent Jeff Lange - showing the Disney Dream's Remy restaurant as may be we have a look at the future WDS Ratatouille restaurant without knowing it!

Awaited " Poster Art of the Disney Parks " Book to be Released Next September !

I've announced it one year and a half ago and that's it, the awaited book about Disney Parks beloved attraction posters is expected to be released next september by Disney Editions! So far, the title of the book is "Poster Art of the Disney Parks" and the book will have an introduction by Tony Baxter. According to Amazon the book will be released on September 4 and, although Amazon don't take any pre-order yet, they've posted on the page this book presentation text that you can read below:

"Anyone who has ever walked through the gates at a Disney Park knows that there is a magical experience waiting to be had on the other side. All of the telltale signs are there: the sound of joyful music pipes across the promenade; the smells of popcorn and cookies waft through the air; and the colorful attraction posters depict all the wonderful rides and shows created for Guests by the Imagineers. Poster Art of the Disney Parks is a tribute to those posters, which begin telling the story of each attraction even before Guests have entered the queue area.

Disney attraction posters have been an important means of communication since Disneyland began displaying them in 1956. Not only are they eye-catching pieces of artwork that adorn the Parks with flair and style, they are also displayed to build excitement and disseminate information about the newest additions to the Disney landscape. When the first attraction posters made their debut at Disneyland, one such piece of art proclaimed that Guests could have a “true-life adventure” on the Jungle Cruise. And in 2012 at Disney’s California Adventure, a poster announced the grand opening of Cars Land—the newest thrill-filled destination at the Disneyland Resort. Both of those posters are reproduced within this book, along with posters from every decade in between.

As evidenced by the evolution of the attraction posters, art styles and design techniques have certainly changed over the years. These characteristics also differ from continent to continent. Posters from Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland exhibit the nuances in presentation that give each Park’s pantheon of posters its signature look. But while artistic interpretations and color palettes may vary from Park to Park and from year to year, the spirit of Disney storytelling is a constant that ties them all together."

Of course the book will include a selection if not all of the attraction posters designed for Disney Parks, including Disneyland Paris attraction posters which have never been available at DLP since the park's opening 20 years ago. So, as they've never been on sale at DLP stores no need to say that this new book will be highly awaited by all DLP fans. But as i've said the book will probably show attraction posters for all Disney theme park around the world and of course rare posters of now extinct Disneyland attractions like this one of Tom Sawyer Island...

...or this one of "Adventure through Inner Space".

I suppose we can expect to find also in the book WDW attraction posters of beloved rides, like this one of the WDW 20000 Leagues under the Sea ride...

...but also rare posters from Tokyo Disneyland like this one created for the Mickey Mouse Revue, an attraction not only extinct at WDW but also at TDL!

New posters especially designed for Hong Kong Disneyland should probably be in the book too, like this one for HKDL Space Mountain...

...or this other for the Tomorrowland StarLiner Diner Restaurant.

To come back to Disneyland Paris attraction posters let's hope that some of DLP great posters will be in the book, like this DLP version of the DL Big Thunder Mountain poster...

...not to mention DLP exclusive attraction posters like the one for Phantom Manor...

...or the great "Visionarium" poster, another beautiful one.

With a bit of luck we'll also find in the book some attraction posters concepts like this one for Disneyland Paris "Les Mystères du Nautilus" attraction. The attraction poster was never finalized but this rendering gives a good idea of how it would have looked.

I'll let you know when the book will be available for pre-order on Amazon, but in the meantime Disney parks fans should be happy to learn that a great book in tribute to Disney theme parks most beloved artwork is finally coming next fall.

David Copperfield is back at Disney Hollywood Studios, and this time he's teaching you some magic !

Who remember the "David Copperfield Magic Underground" restaurant project that was supposed to open at Disney-MGM Studios in the late 1990's - and never opened. It was announced on a big billboard near the entrance of the park, and then, not only the billboard but the whole project really disappeared!

You might be interested to know what happened, so here is more about this project-that-never-was: David Copperfield's Magic Underground was planned to be a restaurant based on Copperfield's magic. There was a sign on Hollywood Boulevard during the late 90s indicating the restaurant was coming soon. Signs were also located around Pleasure Island and signs outside Disney-MGM Studios. A Magic Underground restaurant was also going to open in New York's Times Square. Plans also included eventual expansion into Disneyland in Anaheim, California, as well as Paris and Tokyo. The restaurants were to have magic props and other items on the walls of the restaurants while magicians would go around to tables doing sleight of hand tricks. There was also to be a larger stage for larger stunts. The restaurant in Times Square was 85 percent completed, but, amid disputes between the creative team and the financial team, and enormous cost overruns, finances dried up from the investors, so the project was cancelled, and Disney cancelled the lease. Copperfield was not an investor in the project; the investors reportedly lost $34 million on the project".

...Well, since then Michael Eisner also have disappeared from the WDC, but it's for other reasons! Probably the only thing that survived from this project is this great and funny picture of Eisner with David released by WDW marketing office when everything was going fine with the project.

But this week, David Copperfield was back at Disney Hollywood Studios, and this time to learn you a very-simple-to-perform magic act as you will see on the video below!

Disneyland Mark Twain and Railroad rides as seen from the pilots point of view

We've all been aboard the Disneyland Mark Twain and the Disneyland railroad but how does it look like when you have the unique point of view that the Mark Twain and Disneyland railroad pilots have? These two videos released by Disney Parks will give you the answer and the first one is shot from the Mark Twain pilothouse with pane windows offering a 360-degree view of the Rivers of America.

And on this next one you'll be able to see the point of view from the Disneyland railroad E.P. Ripley locomotive!

The beautiful Mark Twain picture at the top was shot by my good friends of the Tours Departing Daily web site that i always recommend to visit daily as they post each day gorgeous HDR pictures of Disneyland or Disney California Adventure!
