Disneyland Paris Update : Big Thunder Mountain Trains Rumor, and more

Here is the part two of my Disneyland Paris update and this time we will have a look at DLP Magic kingdom thanks to pictures from Max Fan, D&M contributor and Dlrp Welcome webmaster.

As we can see in these first pictures, and although the day Max shot the pictures was a bit cloudy,  spring and flowers finally arrived at DLP!

Let's move in Main Street towards Discoveryland...

...where rocks of the entrance are really not in good condition...

...and need some restoration, but for now they are just hidden by a wall of plants.

We're now in the back of Discoveryland and here are the three locations that shouldn't look the same in two or three years when the expected Star Wars land will be built... once the park will have found the money!

The Captain EO Theater will be transformed - in a Jedi Academy?...

...and the Pizza Planet will disappear and instead the famous Star Wars Cantina restaurant will be build, probably at the same location.

Let's move to Fantasyland and Casey Jr where after several months with the two Casey Jr trains missing their last wagon, only one train still miss it.

Before:

After:

In Adventureland, the Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost is currently closed for refurbishment...

Right in front of it, though, the works are almost over on the "cool post" and the ATM location.

In Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain is on maintenance until June 14, in addition to the new disabled guests access currently built. That, if i can say, is for the GOOD news, as there might be a real bad one: a quite strong rumor is saying that DLP might take out the locomotives currently at the front of each BTM trains to replace them by a single wagon, like the trains have, for instance, at HKDL Grizzly Mountain ride where trains don't have locomotives in the front. First, yes, the rumor is true and they really thought about doing this but the good news is that the idea has apparently been cancelled and BTM trains will keep their locomotives, thanks God!

But why would they do this theming sacrilege, you ask? Well, the first thing that we can think of is that having a new wagon would add 6 more people for each train, and so increase the ride capacity... but in fact DLP was not thinking to do it to increase trains capacity but to keep capacity almost the same with fewer trains. There are so many breakdowns caused by slow loading or unloading that they want to increase the distance between trains. So, in this case there’d be a maximum of 4 instead of 5 trains on the track. Right now they are studying some different proposals to increase each train’s capacity while keeping the engine at the front, and we'll see if any changes happen.

And that's all for today's DLP update!

DLP Walt Disney Studios Ratatouille Ride Update

Here is a new update about the works on the highly awaited Ratatouille ride at DLP Walt Disney Studios. Although we can't say that summer has arrived yet in France the works are going pretty fast on the show building and restaurant facades and if the sun decides to appear all this might be finished at the end of the summer - if there is a summer!

As usual we have to thanks Max Fan D&M contributor and Dlrp Welcome webmaster for his pictures, and now let's have a look at all this!

Below, the restaurant building, note on the top of the right part ( not themed yet with fake facades ) the rounded metallic structure which is here for the upcoming verandah.

On the next picture, the metallic support for the Gusteau's sign.

What Gusteau's sign, you ask? Well, this one, that you can see in the movie...

...and also on the WDI concept-art below - look at the top of the left building. By the way, the fountain will be build, too.

Let's look at other pictures that Max shot "from the ground" - the previous one were shot from the top of Toy Story Play Land Parachute Drop ride.

Now, the major infos happened at the end of last week when a Disney Central Plaza forum member posted the most interesting blueprints of the ride as well as the restaurant. I must say that i'm even surprised that it didn't happened before as the plans are available to be seen by anyone asking it  at Chessy's City Hall, according to the french law. I won't post the blueprints showing the ride layout here but you can see all of them on the DCP Facebook page HERE.

What we can learn from the plans is that the vehicles will probably leave the load station three by three as we can see that they will place themselves in front of screens - where will be 3D projections - either all three vehicles together in front of a big screen or each vehicle in front of a smaller one. Like at HKDL Mystic Manor where four vehicles enter the first scene and then move together in the others.

The other interesting thing that we can learn is how high the "real" ride decors will be. If you have a look at the picture below you can see at the bottom the vehicle, inside an oval, with a rat nose and eyes in the front and the silhouette of people inside, in front of Paris roofs decor, with chimneys. The plan show the show building up to the roof and, as you've seen on the picture above how high the show building will be, you can guess that the inside decors will be literally huge.

Same for this other part where we can see what seems to be giant food. All this of course is done to give the feeling to the guests that they have been reduced at the size of a rat.

Of course DLP fans are now buzzing with excitement and will spend the year to decrypt the blueprints but everyone will still have to wait until summer 2014, the scheduled opening date for the ride!

Knott's Berry Farm Timber Mountain Log Ride Re-Open after Complete Renovation

Knott's Berry Farm Timber Mountain Log ride is, with the Calico Mine ride, Knott's most legendary ride and it has re-opened yesterday after many months of complete renovation and with new audio-animatronics from Garner Holt, the company also producing AAs for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Above: Knott's Berry Farm Timber Mountain Log Ride circa 1970's

With all its animatronics, and although the ride has a totally different theme, Timber Mountain Log ride is to Knott's Berry Farm what Pirates of Caribbean is to Disneyland - the ride opened just a few years after POTC, in 1969 - and was design dby Bud Hurlbut, on the picture below in 1967 with Walter Knott, showing him the ride model.

Bud Hurlbut did several renderings for the ride, and you know how much we love renderings at D&M, don't you?, so here are some of them.

Below, some pictures of the ride original scenes with animals and loggers animatronics.

John Wayne, who was a friend of Walter Knott, was there with his son Ethan when the ride had its 1969 Grand Opening and the opening was a tremendous success.

For those of you who are not familiar with the ride history here is a great first video from Knotts which will tell you more about the ride and its creator Bud Hurlbut. And you'll also see in the video legendary WDI Imagineer Tony Baxter, a great fan of Knott's and who created Disneyland's first log ride, the beloved Splash Mountain.

The ride had its first major renovation since its 1969 opening and it's to Garner Holt Productions that Knott's asked to create new Audio-Animatronics as you will see in this next video which will take you for a private tour inside Garner Holt Productions.

The rendering below shows one of the new scenes created by Garner Holt Productions.

In this next video, Bill Butler, creative director at Garner Holt Productions explain you what has been their work on the ride renovation.

Last Thursday was the big day for the new opening and on that same day Knott's celebrated too the opening of the Boardwalk Pier. Some technical problems avoided the ride to re-open on that day but you'll see both grand openings on the video below as well as some views of the Timber Mountain original model in the excellent exhibit which celebrates the ride history along with 1969 original artworks.

And the new ride itself, you ask, how is it? Well, you're will see it by yourself with this great video filmed by ThemeParkHD last friday when the ride finally opened! The log is sometime going a bit quickly but the new audio-animatronics looks great anyway!

WDS Ratatouille Ride Plans Unveiled

It had to happen, a DLP fan who went to Chessy's city hall where the Ratatouille ride plans are available to be seen by anyone who ask to ( as according to the french law ) posted them on the Disney Central Plaza forum and you can see them HERE ( it starts on the page 7 of the thread and look for posts by RicRac and click where it is written "spoiler" as the plans are hidden to avoid to be seen by those who precisely wants to avoid spoiler ) or, even more easily of DCP Facebook page HERE.

On the picture above you can see the ride entrance with the marquee. When it was done they uses the english title "Ratatouille kitchen Calamity" but from what i've been told it will be replaced by the french title instead than this english one.
